Hello there, welcome to the 'pedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you need any questions answered about the project then check out Wikipedia:Help or drop me a line. BTW, Great work on the knots articles -- I never thought those twists of string could be so interesting. Cheers! --maveric149

The wikipedia software enables some nifty editing tricks: Thanks for taking to our naming conventions so quickly (it usually takes a bit of time for most new users to get the hang of it). However, it isn't necessary to use a pipe to write knots so that you can have a direct link to the knot article. All you have to write is knots and it will display as knots. I wasn't sure if you referring to the use of pipes to embed your user page or you were talking about the use of the tilda shortcut. You obviously already know about pipes but there is a neat shortcut you can use to sign your name to talk pages: just type three tildas in a row, like this, ~~~ and it will automatically become Satsun when you preview or save. You can also type four tilas and in addition to the above, the date will also magically appear. If you are totally paranoid you can back up each page you work on - but this isn't necessary. The history of each article shows who has worked on what and RecentChanges is constantly being patrolled by people like me who love to pounce on vandals and repair any temporary harm they do. In addition to this, I select the "watch this article for me" feature and periodically check "My watchlist", go through the histories of the articles I am watching and make sure nobody has vandalized or otherwise damaged the articles I care about. Besides, every few days to a week the entire database of articles is saved and archived -- just in case someone where able to get root access to the server itself and wipe us clean. This hasn't happended yet and isn't likely to happen -- but one should never say never. At most we would all lose a few days work. It isn't customary to put one's name on the pages one edits. That's what Talk pages and History are for :=)Ortolan88

The pricescan link around an ISBN comes about automagically as a result of the code. There was some discussion awhile back about where it should link to--which site--it used to have something to do with amazon.com, IIRC. KQ

Hum, ISBN thing looks like a bug. Go ahead and report it. --maveric149

Hello, I'm trying to formally document a format for knots in Wikipedia:WikiProject Knots. Some knots aren't following the format you started. Your opinion at Wikipedia:WikiProject Knots would be greatly appreciated. Samw 04:34, 1 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Images of knots[edit]

Hello! Are you still around? Probably not, but here goes anyway...

Could you please help clarify the copyright status of some knot images such as Image:FigureOfEightLoop.jpg or Image:AlpineButterflyKnot.jpg? Their history has been lost, but I believe you uploaded them (at least, you added them to articles, see e.g. [1]). Can you tell us where these images come from? Did you take them yourselves? Thank you. Lupo 08:16, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the answer! I had tagged all these images I could find as GFDL-presumed, so their status is fine for now, although it would be good if you could change the tags to GFDL-self. Unless, of course, you'd prefer to apply some other free license such as CC-BY-SA to them... Lupo 07:25, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Stevedore'sKnot.jpg listed for deletion[edit]

An image or media file that you uploaded, Image:Stevedore'sKnot.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

Image copyright problem with Image:Angler'sLoop.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Angler'sLoop.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: TemplateName. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.

Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Awyong Jeffrey Mordecai Salleh 00:31, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
