Dictaphone company[edit]

This article seems to cover two different topics: the Dictaphone company and dictation machines. I suggest we use this article for the company and describe voice recording in either Dictation (currently a redirect, but that could change) or Dictation machine. The current article could have a link at the top (for the voice recording machines, see...). Some of the content of Digital dictation could be merged into the the new article. The majority of the article seems to be about the device rather than the company. If people think splitting the article is appropriate, I suppose doing a "move article" to Dictation machine would be okay, if someone then wished to start an article on the Dictaphone company, and then make Dictaphone into a disambiguation page. -- Infrogmation 14:48, 4 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've broken the article into two as suggested. I've also started an article about the DictaBelt, which was mentioned in the Dictaphone article and which redirected to it. ProhibitOnions ^(T) 17:16, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My opinion is that it would be a mistake to split the company from the product because the company was defined by the dictation products and the other products primarily were used to supplement the dictation line (through 1971 at least).MP13642 (talk) 02:51, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

FYI. Dictaphones/dictation equipment other than central units such as the endless loop Thought Tank typically fell into one of 3 categories: 1. A units were for dictation (recording). Such as a TA-5

2. B units were for transcribing (playback to typist). Such as a TB-5

3. C units (far fewer) for dictating and transcribing. Such as a TC-5

I think the C models ended with the 6 series.

Dictaphone (electronic music band)[edit]

What about this band called 'Dictaphone'?It performs electronic, ambient and yass music.I know that it may be liitle-known in the world of Britney Spears etc. but I'd suggest to make a disambiguation page. (Sorry for my potential errors but English is not my first language)

Incorrect language links[edit]

The language links in this article are incorrect, most of them belong to dictation machine. I've already tried to fix that two years ago, but I guess a losing battle against the bots. One contributor in some foreign wikipedia who stops reading the article at the title and fails to realize that this article is about the specific company/brand is enough for the bots to add the whole pile of links back. --Tobias K. Dictaphone and Scully[edit]

In 1967, Dictaphone purchased Scully Recording Instruments, a company founded by John J. Scully, former Columbia Records employee (from 1915 to 1919). John J. Scully, along with his son Lawrence, developed a disc cutting lathe, which was used by many US record labels. The tape recorder division was successful for several years in the 1960s and early 1970s.

Mention should be made of this significant purchase, and its' contribution to the company's success, especially in light of the elder Scully's employment at Columbia, which also ties in to the company's history.
