OCD[edit]

I don't think the reference to OCD here is supportable. The thing about "pedants" (not merely people who are meticulous in their private lives) that makes them notable and obnoxious is that they strive proudly to impose their narrow minded rules on others or strut their supposed superiority. There is nothing to support the idea that people with OCD commonly have any desire to impose it on others or "show off" or look down on others for not sharing their compulsions. (The out of date citation provided mentions it as one rather obscure possibility in an exhaustive list, not as typical or characteristic.)

The point about autism may be more arguable for *particular types*, or particular individuals, but not as a sweeping generalization, and the OCD comparison is just really off the mark. Everyone I've ever met who could be truly called a "pedant" did not have any signs of OCD -- it seems more often an issue of job security. DKEdwards (talk) 04:48, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the above. The references for both OCD and autism are outdated. The scope of OCD and autism are too broad to attribute this as a typical behaviour. I advocate for its removal. Poppy Nicolette (talk) 11:28, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not just pedantic speech[edit]

If I am pedantic about it, and I am because I have Asperger's syndrome, it is not just pedantic speech (which in fact isn't always the case itself) but is also pedantic in a more general sense. I am generally pedantic, except when I stop myself being due to being conditioned by the rest of society's failure to be pedantic (or, as I see it, properly accurate as opposed to woefully inefficient and approximate most times) - my pedantic nature is not just in my (spoken-aloud) speech.
