Personal appearances[edit]

Is there really a need for all the personal appearances on various chat shows/DW documentaries? Surely lots of actors appear on shows being interviewed about their latest project. I think a lot of biographies would be a mess if these were used. Is the information contained all that important anyway?--Tuzapicabit (talk) 11:50, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. It is excessive to list all of her personal appearances, and really detracts from the flow of the page. I am interested in what she appeared in, not what she did to promote those appearances. I do not imagine that many Wikipedia pages have such an extensive list of personal appearances, if any. JeffHCross (talk) 23:28, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless of other Wikipedia pages, Lis Sladen has more enthusiatic fans than other prominent people. Many fans would appreciate the opportunity to track down her appearances, especially when they are available on home video.Chelisuk 21.10, 23 January 2012 —Preceding undated comment added 21:20, 23 January 2012 (UTC).[reply]

this isnt listed ... important cos its her hometown and (not mentioned in article)was also with her husband http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/nostalgia/music-out-world---music-3418239 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.150.88.61 (talk) 05:10, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Tributes[edit]

Seems to me that the Tributes filmography is out of place being between her Television appearances and Film appearances. If it's necessary to document the Tributes to her in tabular format, it would make more sense to be put with her death. JeffHCross (talk) 23:28, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Elisabeth Sladen Nominated for Good Article[edit]

Elisabeth Sladen Article has been nominated as a good article. There are however fixes that need to be done see Talk:Elisabeth Sladen/GA1 thanks Sfxprefects (talk) 19:10, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Drive by comment relating to Good article criteria. The lead needs to be expanded (see WP:Lead). The one sentence paragraphs should be incorporated into flowing prose. Not specifically GA related, but why all the cites for her birth, is it controversial? See WP:Overcite. Her early life should mention her birth day (ideally everything in the lead should be in the article body as well). This has potential, but needs a bit of work yet. AIRcorn (talk) 15:38, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it is controversial, see the box above beginning "A number of sources give Sladen's year of birth as 1948". Fact is, her autobiography (p. 11) states "I was born on 1 February 1946. That's right, 1946", and goes on to note that the year normally quoted in books and articles, 1948, is an error that nobody seems willing to check and correct. It's well known for celebs to claim to be younger than their true age, but here Ms Sladen claims that she is born earlier than the popular belief. This is a case where WP:SPS should be waived. --Redrose64 (talk) 16:42, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This was all hashed out when she passed on and someone looked up the register of births, and found it to be 1946. That's when the edit notes were added. It's all in the talk page archives. Britmax (talk) 01:11, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Relation to Clara Oswald's name[edit]

There's a lot of speculation that Sladen's middle name was chosen for Clara as a way to honor Sladen. I've tried to find actual confirmation, but I've only managed to find speculation posts and this article . Would it still be worth adding? Maybe not confirming it as fact, but with something like "It is widely rumored that Clara Oswald, the current companion in Doctor Who as of December 2012, was named Clara in honor of Sladen". Cashetana (talk) 02:32, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but we don't report rumours or speculation. We really need something like a direct quote from Steven Moffat or equivalent. --Redrose64 (talk) 11:03, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DOB notice[edit]

This address [1] takes you to her own entry in the register. It works dead on my page (and here) but not in the template. I am watching Dr Who at the moment and will try to make it work afterward but anyone who can see what I am doing wrong is welcome to have a go. Britmax (talk) 20:44, 14 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Can't get it to work. I will try again in the morning. Britmax (talk) 21:47, 14 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Name not double barrelled[edit]

Lis Sladen was not born with a double barrelled surname. Her name was Elisabeth Clara Heath SLADEN. Heath was one of her middle names, not part of her surname. Her father was Tom Sladen and her mother Gladys Trainer or Trainor. I am a professional genealogist and I am paid to know about names. As I cannot reference this fact (and it is a fact) to a book I shall put it here simply for the record and will not attempt to change or amend the statement on the main page. John2o2o2o (talk) 00:33, 5 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If you cannot reference this fact how do you know it is a fact? What is the point of submitting this information here at all? Britmax (talk) 10:06, 5 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I checked the entry for when she was married in 1969, and it says "Heath-Sladen" so she must have chosen to hyphenate it when she became an adult, which she was perfectly entitled to do. She would not have had to change it by deed-poll for it to be valid, though she could have done that. I will keep what I have said above as it is still technically correct. John2o2o2o (talk) 11:13, 5 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Putting it simply, her birth is indexed under the surname "Sladen" not "Heath-Sladen". However her marriage is registered under "Heath-Sladen" so she must have changed it. Heath was an old family surname, which was used by a lot of her ancestors in Devon as a middle name, though not by all of them. They were clearly quite proud of it. Lis Sladen from what I can make out is the only one to have converted it to a double barrelled surname. I'm not looking to upset anyone here. I was 'in love' with Sarah Jane Smith as a young boy and gutted when she left Dr Who. Leela just wasn't the same! John2o2o2o (talk) 11:54, 5 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You are not the only one there. Now if you can share your sources with us it may change the article. Britmax (talk) 12:02, 5 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not one mention of ethnicity.[edit]

Sladen is not a anglosaxon name.--64.134.171.159 (talk) 23:48, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A quick Google suggests that the name is derived from a place-name in Lancashire, a hamlet near Manchester; the same search found “One of the first records of the name was found in the Yorkshire Poll Tax Rolls of 1379 where Johannes Sladen was listed”. Seems long enough ago to conclude that the name is ethnically British, surely? Jock123 (talk) 21:13, 18 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
In most cases ethenicity, like this one, it is not relevant to the subject. MilborneOne (talk) 22:17, 18 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
