Anybody want to add something about the absolute absence of any need for three bridges connecting Honshu and Shikoku? Corruption, cronyism, tight ties between the construction industry and the LDP--surely someone more knowledgable than I can create a nice NPOV addendum.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 160.133.117.45 (talk • contribs) 17:31, 5 April 2005.

As someone who has personally had to go 3 hours out of my way to get to my final destination on Honshu because there are only three bridges connecting Honshu and Shikoku, I would say yes, it would have to be someone more knowledgable than you, because when you say "the absolute absence of any need," it shows you have never experienced the joys of traveling by car from Shikoku to...anywhere else in Japan.--Nobunaga24 12:09, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Added map showing Expressway locations[edit]

I couldn't find an older 'free' map with the bridges on it, so I drew them in myself (caveat). They aren't meant to be exactly accurate, but they give an immediate overview of the 'bridging' of the Inland Sea. Frankly, I was a bit overwhelmed by the complex of actual bridges included within the expressways (e.g., Great Seto Bridge), compounded by the variety of names for each thing (I think I understand now the Great Seto Bridge is an alternate name for the entire Seto-Chuo Expressway, whereas elsewhere bridges are just parts of an Expressway). My tendency is always to go left to right / west to east, but I regret I did not match the order of the article in listing the expressways, now that it's all together. Oh well. No biggie, I think. rail ferries?[edit]

Are/were any of the ferries rail-ferries? Tabletop 01:48, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

JNR (predecessor to JR regional companies) ran a rail ferry, the Uko Ferry, from Tamano, Oakayama to Takamatsu, Kagawa. I believe it was this ferry that was involved in the Shiun Maru disaster. AygALT (talk) 06:26, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
