Rough and ready mini-clean up done[edit]

I was a bit shocked at the state of this article when I dropped by looking for basic info on the man. Quite a bit of the text I had to remove because of irreparable WP:OR and WP:ESSAY, weasel words and opinion. What remains lacks both personal and literary info and what there is lacks citations and refs for many of the assertions and analysis. Worse still it is missing literary criticism especially re. comparisons to Charles Dickens and description/discussion of his contemporary popular acclaim/success compared with any subsequent examination. It also appears to have been a bit too carelessly translated from French in many places so I cleaned up the grammar and re-wrote a few lines where I could. The article really does need taking in hand entirely by an expert. So I've templated it and now will do my best to find such a one in a project or somewhere. Wish me luck! Early life[edit]

I restored the last sentence of paragraph one of the section, which in June 2018 read "thinking he was still among his unruly pupils.[2] These experiences and others were reflected in his novel Le Petit Chose." In Sept. 2018 it was vandalized to "thinking he was friend of Cervantes".

However I don't know how to restore the original footnote [2}: "unruly pupils.[2]" It's available in the June 2018 version: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alphonse_Daudet&direction=prev&oldid=860275607#Early_life — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ddeman (talkcontribs) 21:09 26 June 2021 (UTC)

"SAPHO" DEALER JAILED.

Book Dealer in Philadelphia Is Given a Year in the County Prison.

Philadelphia, Pa., March 3. "Sapho," Daudet's novel, was today adjudged an immoral publication by a jury in the quarter sessions court and was instrumental in consigning Frederick Kohler, a local dealer in books and stationery, to the county prison for one year. Lieut. O'Brien, in citizen's cl ithing, purchased a copy of "Sapho" from Kohler. After the lieutenant had examined the book he had a warrant issued for Kohler's arrest. The case was tried today before Judge Finletter, the oldest jurist on the local bench. The jury retired. For more than an hour the jurors investigated the exhibits and then agreed on the verdict. 2600:1700:D591:5F10:4C60:7BA2:B2C9:67D9 (talk) 16:24, 4 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
