User:Grutness/Geo-stub tallying

They call me The Count... because I love... to COUNT! Mwahahahahaha!

The tally[edit]

A comprehensive list of geo-stubs at the national/territorial level exists at User:Grutness/Geo-stub list. It is not intended to include subnational units such as states or provinces except in those cases where the geographic separation of these places from their home country makes them seem, to some eyes, "separate nations". "Country" is used in a decidedly loose sense here- several of the entities listed are technically not regarded as countries by all meanings of the term (Guam, Gibraltar, Wallis and Futuna, and Western Sahara, for just four examples).

Current figures are as at January 16, 2009. The next tallying will occur in mid-February 2009

Those countries marked in bold in the lists below have 50 or more stubs. Note that - as some stubs may refer to more than one country - the numbers below will not necessarily add up to the number of articles in each regional stub category.

Current/future proposals[edit]

Categories for any countries which reach the 60-stub threshold:

Current redirects[edit]

The following stub template names are currently redirects and may need to become full templates at a later stage if there is sufficient demand:

All currently redirect to stub tyopes for Spain's Plazas de soberanía and autonomous North African cities.

General stub list[edit]

All countries also have a general stub template - all but 19 of these have their own dedicated category, as listed below.

Missing categories by number of stubs[edit]

In the following list, an asterisk indicates that there are subtypes included in the figures - those subtypes are listed at the end of each item.

Geo-stub list[edit]

There are still a lot of countries which are grouped together under geo-stub names like "Oceania" or "Caribbean". Some of these countries are getting close to the minimum 60 or so needed for separate stub categories. This list was prepared from these regional categories and from listed template links.

By number of stubs[edit]

A cross indicates that the country would not have 50 or more stubs in the general category if geo-stubs were moved into their own category (number indicates the number of non-geo-stubs). If this cross and number is bolded, then the country currently has a general stub category.

Underpopulated categories[edit]

"Underpopulation" is taken as meaning fewer than 60 stubs, fewer than 50 stubs if there is one subcategory, or fewer than 40 stubs if there are two or more subcategories (excludes parent-only and de facto parent-only types). Currently, there are no underpopulated categories.
