Missing facilities[edit]

Initial draft of VA medical facilities by state. I think the one article is going to be too large, considering splitting up into:

"List of Veterans Affairs Medical Facilities by State""
"List of Veterans Affairs Medical Facilities Alabama"
"List of Veterans Affairs Medical Facilities Alaska"
etc..

Bizarre categorization[edit]

Currently, the list seems to be by state, then facility type, then city; however, the facility names often seem contradict the facility categories. For example, in California, there is a section labeled "Outpatient Clinic", which has a bunch of facilities labeled "CBOC" and "OPC", then a section labeled "Community Based Outpatient Clinic", which seems to have different facilities also labeled "CBOC" and "OPC". What's the difference? Is the organizational structure different than the clinic names imply? Or is it all just a mess? If the facilities were named the same as the category, the list could probably become much more compact. --Closeapple 06:39, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Answer (though I didn't write the page): CBOC's are the "community based outpatient clinics," which are free standing clinics not attached to an acute care hospital. However, the categorizations on this page do not seem to be right. The Philadelphia clinic is not a CBOC...outpatient clinics in Philadelphia are part of the medical center and not referred to as CBOCs.

I do have a question, though....does anyone have a better description of the medical center/hospitals? Some are long term or intermediate term care. For instance, Philadelphia Medical Center stands for both a @ 150 bed hospital and a separate 240 bed nursing home care unit....is there a list of info @ all the centers somewhere rather than clicking through them one-by-one on the VA's main site?

Page doesn't format for print properly[edit]

While including this article (list) in the Veterans infobook, I notice upon printing that the page burps and is rendered in unformatted text. Given the prior comment about categorizations and the length of the page, perhaps a better format would be a sortable table with:

- one table per region, with sortable headings of
  • facility name
  • city
  • state
  • type
and we can add another column if necessary:
  • note

The VA categorizes such facilities in several ways.   • I've created the first table of the VISN series (there are 23 21) and have placed it in a section below the first table in the article (the main VISN table). These table-types should be adequate to replace the state sections. If no one objects, I'll create the rest of the tables below this one. Page split needed due to length[edit]

Having entered 2 of the 21 VISN tables and seeing now the length of the page, it seems pretty clear that the page will be too large with all 21 VISNs and the state breakdown below that. I think there should be a split that makes the "by state" page separate. Comments and thoughts? -- Sctechlaw (talk) 05:59, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

After adding the VISNs 1 and 15-23, it is apparent that the page will be too large with all VISNs on the same page, so another split is on order. I propose splitting the page as it exists now into sections 1-12 and another page for sections 15-23. Sections 13-14 don't exist as those VISNs were merged to form VISN 23. May I remind all editors that Wikipedia is not a directory? This list should be split by state, and this main article used to direct readers to the appropriate list. This would be similar to List of hospitals. Ng.j (talk) 02:10, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
