Welcome to Wikipedia, the greatest encyclopedia on Earth! You seem to be off to a good start. Hopefully you will soon join the vast army of Wikipediholics! You may wish to review the welcome page, tutorial, and stylebook, as well as the avoiding common mistakes and Wikipedia is not pages. The Wikipedia directory is also quite useful. In addition, if you made any edits before getting an account, you may wish to assign those to your username.

By the way, an important tip: To sign comments on talk pages, simply type four tildes, like this: ~~~~. This will automatically add your name and the time after your comments.

Finally, here are some open tasks:

Hope to see you around the Wiki! And if you have any questions whatsoever, feel free to contact me on my talk page!

Glad to hear it! Stick around awhile! What are you interested in? Neutrality (talk) 03:34, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Welcome from me too! Interesting mixture of English and foreign-looking articles you have worked on so far. I echo Neutrality's question; when we know more of your interests, as indicated on more sections of Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by fields of interest, we can point you to areas you might not find by yourself (as this thing is so vast). Best wishes! Robin Patterson 00:42, 13 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Hello my friend! we seem to have clashed on Luke Kelly - my browser had crashed when I first submitted the text, so I resubmitted taking out a good few of your wikifications which I thought must have been automatic. Sorry about that. I think all that were to existing articles are still in there. I'm quite new to this proces so apologies for any confusion. Palmiro 00:57, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)

beta Systemic Bias section[edit]

Hi, if you wish to help contribute to a beta version of a Wikipedia page section designed to counter-act Wikipedia's systemic bias, please sign the bottom of this section on the Village pump - Wikipedia:Village_pump#Systemic_bias_in_Wikipedia. If not, no worries.--Xed 03:54, 22 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Image tagging[edit]

Sure, I'll add those tags at the next script run (when the next database dump will be available). Cheers, Alfio 07:33, 23 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Yes, I am planning on writing articles on these. It may be be a couple of days. See the articles I did for the Pegasus class hydrofoils. -Joseph (Talk) 03:17, 2004 Sep 28 (UTC)

I noticed you tagged Tribute to Mozart for wikiquote. I'm wondering, though, about compilation copyrights. This page is taken entirely from [1], with just a couple of quotes re-ordered (read it from the bottom up and you'll see the identity). Think it's a copyvio? --Jpgordon 03:41, 28 Sep 2004 (UTC)

It occurs to me (what's the protocol here? Do I continue the conversation here, or on my talk page where you continued it? signed, pretty darn newbie) that it's a moot question, at least for Wikipedia, since the nature of such compilations is unencyclopedic in the first place. --Jpgordon 03:51, 28 Sep 2004 (UTC)

hydronephrosis- i need help[edit]

yes i copied most of the information from the NIH. this is important information, so if you could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks[edit]

Many thanks for the prompt greetings - I might almost say too prompt, I'm four hours behind Wikipedia! Mackensen 00:16, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the greeting![edit]

Hi, Whosyourjudas -- Thanks for the birthday greeting, you're making me feel old! ;) Glad to have you here at Wikipedia. --Bumm13 21:18 UTC, Oct 10, 2004

Sorry about the mistake[edit]

sorry about the mistake with editing the welcome template, I realised as soon as I'd done it but didn't know how to revert back. Sorry for the trouble, I guess that's what comes of being a newbie :( Mazadillon 21:11, 11 Oct 2004 (UTC)

should be used instead of welcome, so that the user won't accidentally edit the template through the section edit link. Goplat 00:14, 12 Oct 2004 (UTC)

message response[edit]

I just got a message telling me to stop adding nonsense to this site. I haven't added anything to this site, I just look up terms and get the definition

Hello![edit]

Hello! I'm new to Wikipedia, so I have a few question? I wrote two articles:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pittacus_of_Mitylene

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chilon_of_Sparta

When I run the names Pittacus or Chilon trough the Wikipedia search engine it does not show that these pages exist. Why is that? I wrote the first article before I created my account in here. How should I put my request for the contribution in the appropriate page? Should I edit the whole page and put my request in it, because I don't see any links to do in by other means? Thanks. User:Demiurgos (Whosyourjudas (talk) 21:22, 13 Oct 2004 (UTC))

Thanks![edit]

Thanks for clearing up that for me. Regards.

Demiurgos 21:22, 13 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Your proposal[edit]

I haven't gotten a chance to look at your proposal yet, but I will. Thanks for letting me know about it. -- Cecropia | explains it all ® 21:37, 13 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Welcome[edit]

Thanks for the welcome! I've actually added a few things to Wikipedia in the past, but as an unregistered editor. As for the mix of articles, the two on the list are both places near to where I live (in southern New Zealand). I suspect that a lot of the editing I'll be doing - for now at least - is beefing up the information on NZ's South Island, since it's one area I do know well. I've added a small biography of myself on my page, on which I list my interests as art, music, flags, and geography, so those are probably the areas I'll end up dealing with. How much I'll be editing will depend largely on the time I have available, though, so don't expect too much from me!

That would be cool![edit]

I'm mostly interested in the free trade agreement.

I have been reading about this topic for two years.

I want to work in translations of most of the current articles to about this topic for people in the spanish communities.

Being a gmail user would be a good idea really!

Re: Gmail Account[edit]

Done,

My username is Aatje, which is how my friends call me... And I will no longer perform any acts of vandalism on this page.

As a sign of trust; i stopped using my proxy, so this is my real IP adress you are seeing at the moment.

Would you please be so kind to send a Gmail invite to the following adress then?

araaijmakers@walla.com

Thanks in advance,

Adriaan

Becoming a member[edit]

Will do, maybe I'll even submit an article or maybe a sum...

Can it be about e.g. Marketing or Management as well instead of "regular topics"? Love to hear some critism about my pieces.

regards,

Adriaan

Marketing/Magement Stuff || Gmail[edit]

Cool! In that case I'm definitely going to dig up some of my works in that field.

Now not to be an ass, but I am going to ask it anyway; Could u please send me an Invite?

Kind regards,

Adriaan

P.S. I'll let you know when I found something good and posted it, hopefully you could "judge" it as well!

Thanks![edit]

Thank you very much for your invite,...

I will not abuse your trust!

Kind regards,

Adriaan

Multiple ID[edit]

Thanks for your warm welcome. I'm glad to be a new Wikipedian, I hope to contribute well, even though my English is not my mother's tongue language (you'll probably see it easily !).

I got a question : why should I have to create an new account to contribute in English, although I already created an account with the same name in the French pages. Are they independant ? In that case, should I create an ID in any language I'd like to contribute (german, ...) ? Gwalarn 10:54, 15 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome message![edit]

I'm mainly using the english wikipedia as information source for german articles, but am contributing interwiki links to german/french articles in return. Here you can find my user page and discusion on the german wikipedia which I check (more) regularly

Do you really want a category like this? There are thousands of genera, and those interested in any particular genera will not care about the large majority of them. I'm listing it on WP:CFD. - UtherSRG 20:20, 16 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Newcomer[edit]

Hi! Thanks for the welcome! I'll try to create some good articles, but have to admit that I guess it takes some time to get used to the different codes!

Jo Bjørn Norway

P.S. I guess You haven't left any openings for Gmail?

User:JoBjørn (Whosyourjudas (talk) 23:59, 17 Oct 2004 (UTC))

please check the discussion board - I've explained to you my adjustments of the PPP figures and, if no one else steps forward to do it, I will be modifying them again.

Thanks :)

NB: Although this time, I'll include a footnote of some kind

Re: Welcome[edit]

I just got your message. Nice to meet you! How did you come across my name?

One more question: How do you invite people to Gmail (I just made an account but don't know how to use these invites)?

Addition looks good. Posted a longish (perhaps too long -- its late at night here) comment on the GDP discussion board. Check it out.

Cheers!

Is it too greedy just to ask?[edit]

I've heard so much great stuff about G-Mail. Is it too greedy just to ask for an account to see what it's like?

durnurd 04:05, 20 Oct 2004 (UTC)

P.S. Thanks for the welcome note!

What is your problem? I'm checking out the site and you basically accuse me of vandalism? What the hell is up with this site?

What is your problem?

I was refering to when you sent me a message saying something close to "stop vandalising the site", perhaps it's just something you randomly send to users but you werent advising me you were telling me, i found it rather rude. Either way I don't know what's going on. I am merely using the resources, not disrupting anything. No hard feelings.

problem with Wiki page?[edit]

Hi - your welcoming message to me said if there were problems that didn't seem like Village pump ones I could ask here, so...

I've no idea why, but every time I try to access the page University of Otago, IE on my computer crashes. No other pages do that - is there some glitch in that page?

James (Grutness 23:10, 21 Oct 2004 (UTC))

Thanks for your response. Hopefully it will go away soon! Grutness 02:07, 22 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Hi Actually I didn't understand how it works relating translation. Should I just create a new translated page and then put the right indication in the original page? (i.e. [en:whatever])

Thanks![edit]

Thank you for attempting to intervene in the mess that Talk:Translation has become. (I would really like to get out of this discussion.) If you are interesting in gettings things to a peaceful resolution you can follow the relevant history at Talk:Favicon and User talk:Vitaly (as far as I know, anything elsewhere has been pasted in one of the already-mentioned pages). As for the dispute resolution process, see Wikipedia:Requests for comment and Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration. (I now rather regret requesting the former, as it is has only resulted in those who tried to comment being added to the list of those being accused.) I thought that the problems were resolved after discussing this with Vitaly on his talk page, but after I edited his edits of Favicon in an attempt to improve formatting, it just got worse. I don't intend to edit anything he posts ever again.

I'm not even sure if there are any current disputes over the content of Translation. (The problem is not with editing of any particular article.) I'm not sure of anything related to this. I have been trying my best to follow policy and guidelines the entire time and if I have done anything clearly contrary to policy, it's because I never heard of that particular policy. At this point, I don't know what to do anymore and I don't even know who to ask for help. Do you know who I should talk to? Is there someone I should/can talk to? Aranel ("Sarah") 03:27, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)

For the record, when I removed the "troubleshooting" section from the Favicon article I explained it on the talk page. Similar edits in the past had been accepted and I saw no reason for that one to be any different, so since there was already discussion on the talk page, I went there to explain what I was doing and why, and I was perfectly willing to discuss the matter (anyone is welcome to re-add the relevant material and someone else can figure out if it belongs there). I never got a chance to discuss the matter, and now I'm afraid even to apologize. I don't think anyone can fairly accuse me of trying to cover anything up.
I don't want to have a "side". I got involved in this pretty much the same way you did—I saw something in progress and tried to help clear things up. Aranel ("Sarah") 03:58, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome message! A question...[edit]

Thank you for the welcome message you left on my talk. I have a newbie's question regarding page translation: I've noticed most (not to say all) of the pages are not translations of each other. Does that mean I should write an article in another language from scratch? My idea would be to translate from the best one (english, most likely) What do you say? Malafaya 17:02, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)
