EU expansion[edit]

Hi and welcome!

Regarding the enlargement of the European Union, if you have the time, you may want to add the status of Ukraine's accession to the EU. Switzerland already has extensive trade agreements with the EU and will probably join at some point (they have a website summarizing the current progress), and Norway has tried to join several times but the referenda failed to get a majority; there will probably be another referendum around 2005.

Maybe these, together with Turkey, should be added to a list of "potential candidates", that is, future membership is likely and generally wanted by both sides (in the case of Norway at least the government has been pursuing it, and recent polls are in favor), but they are no official candidates yet.

I am presently unclear on when and how the Euro zone is going to be extended. Will new members have to hold separate referenda on the Euro? Will they join automatically after a transition period? These are questions worth researching.—Eloquence 08:03, Sep 22, 2003 (UTC)

I think you're right here; I'll do some research and add the relevant data. Though I think stuff about the Euro should go on the Euro and Euro zone pages. -- Cabalamat 13:37, 22 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Hey there, I've deleted "Project for a New American Century on Iraq", but the article and edit history have been moved to User:Cabalamat/Project for a New American Century on Iraq, along with the talk page. When you think it's up to Wikipedia standards, go ahead and move it back. (When you do so, don't forget to restore this wikilink.) Cheers, Cyan 02:31, 14 Oct 2003 (UTC)

nice work![edit]

I just wanted to drop you a note complementing you on your work. I really enjoy reading the articles you've put together. For example, Soviet tank production during World War II is very interesting information. I like learning about such things, and I think Wikipedia is the perfect place for that kind of article. Keep up the good work. Kingturtle 16:55, 12 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Glad you liked it. have you also seen German tank production during World War II and American tank production during World War II? I also intend to do a similar page for the UK, and also possibly for Italy, Japan and minor country tank production. -- Cabalamat 20:12, 20 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Cabalamat, referncing your question on Polish campaign - yes, we know that it was a myth. And, IIRC Guderian does not said he saw the charge, or that it this happened, merely that his solderis were panicked because they thought that Polish cavalry was charging (after the incident at battle of Krojanty Szopen 17:08, 16 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

WP:FAC - Zeppelin[edit]

Hello Cabalamat, on May 22 you objected against making "Zeppelin" a featured article. I have tried to address the issue you brought forward, but your negative comment has remained unchanged and is still counted as an objection. Would you please consider to review the article and update your judgement, so that the article can either be further enhanced, or become featured? Thanks in advance. --J.Rohrer 22:29, 2 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback on the XP article. An attempt has been made to address your concerns about the information about domains. Do you think this is OK? If you do, would you be able to strike out your objection on Wikipedia:Featured_article_candidates#Windows_XP, or if you don't think it's good enough could you make some further suggestions?

Thanks! Ta bu shi da yu 14:19, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Wikinews demo up and running[edit]

Hi!

I'm writing to let you know that the Wikimedia Board of Trustees has approved the first stage of the Wikinews project. There's now a fully operational English demo site at demo.wikinews.org. This will be used for experimenting with various review models and basic policies before the site is launched officially in about a week. demo.wikinews.org will become the English version later.

You voted for the Wikinews project, so I'm asking for your participation now. Everything is open, nothing is final. What Wikinews will and can be depends in large part on you. There already is a global Wikinews mailing list for discussing the project. If you are interested at all, please subscribe -- coordination is of key importance. There's also an IRC channel #wikinews on irc.freenode.net. Realtime discussion can help to polish up articles.

If you're looking for something to do, check out the articles in development and articles in review. Or start a new story in the Wikinews workspace, or ignore the proposed review system - it's up to you. I hope you'll join us soon in this exciting experiment.--Eloquence* 02:00, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Wikipedians who blog[edit]

Hi! if you have a moment, could you please see m:Wikinews and blogs to comment? We're interested in learning how Wikinews can work with bloggers; what they might be interested in, how they can take advantage of Wikinews, how they can contribute through their blogs, etc. Thanks! Amgine/talk

Aircraft specifications survey[edit]

Hi Cablamat. Since you listed yourself as a participant of WikiProject Aircraft, you may be interested in a survey currently underway to help develop a revised version of our standard specifications section. --Rlandmann 00:13, 18 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Aircraft specs policy[edit]

Several weeks ago, you voted in the WikiProject Aircraft Specifications Survey. One of the results of the survey was that the specifications for the various aircraft articles will now be displayed using a template. Ericg and I have just finished developing that template; a lengthier bulletin can be found on the WT:Air talkpage. Naturally, we will need to begin a drive to update the aircraft articles. However, several topics in the survey did reach establish consensus, and they need to be resolved before we implement the template. It is crticial that we make some conclusion, so that updating of the specs can resume as soon as possible. You can take part in the discussions here. Thanks, Ingoolemo talk 06:02, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a "prod" template to the article Beltane Fire Society, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.

(If you think a redirect would be more useful, I'll gladly do that instead) DGG 22:35, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Includipedia[edit]

Could you provide me with more info on Includipedia? How exactly does/will it work? Will it be a Wikipedia mirror, except with supplemental deleted stuff? You should try contacting the folks at docdroppers, who are trying to preserve hacker history which certain wikipedians deem to be not "notable". Volt4ire 01:11, 12 March 2008 (UTC) Volt4ire

---

Hi, Volt4ire.

To answer your questions,

Includipedia (INP) will be a fork of Wikipedia (WP), not a mirror as such. We are copying over all of WP's articles, and a bot will periodically go through WP's articles and if the WP article has changed since the last time it was copied, but the INP article hasn't changed, then the WP article will be copied to INP. But all INP articles will be editable, not read-only, and if the INP article has been edited, then the WP article will not be copied over it (because that would destroy the edits).

INP is an inclusionist encyclopedia, so our guidelines as to what content is allowable will be a lot looser than WP's. In particular, there will be no artificial threshold of "notability" to pass.

As well as being a fork of Wikipedia, Includipedia will also add data from other sources, such as Freshmeat (open source software projects) and Project Gutenberg (out-of-copyright texts) and we'll integrate geographic information with OpenStreetMap.

Sounds great! How can I help (besides editing the site)? I'll be attending the Free Software Foundation's annual members' meeting this weekend, so let me know if I can do anything to promote Includipedia there. Volt4ire 21:24, 13 March 2008 (UTC) Volt4ire

TERPROM[edit]

Waayyyy back when you wrote an article on TERPROM. I believe this is a UK version of the term TERCOM. Is this true? Or is this a brand name of some sort? In either case, a merge to TERCOM seems warranted. Maury Markowitz (talk) 13:52, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't remember; as you say it was way back when. The TERPROM article links to a company website, so I guess it's a brand name of that company -- Cabalamat (talk) 10:59, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Sunder Katwala has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the prod blp tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. E. Fokker (talk) 00:20, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A bit quick off the mark, aren't you? I was in the middle of adding references when you added your proposal for deletion to the article. I trust that GenSec of the Fabian Society is notable enough. -- Cabalamat (talk) 00:31, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on Sunder Katwala requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding hang on at the top of the article, immediately below the speedy deletion () tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate), and providing your reasons for contesting on the article's talk page, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

You may want to read the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies. Cheers! ► Wireless Keyboard ◄ 14:02, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article MENALIB has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails Wikipedia:Notability (media) and Wikipedia:Notability (websites)

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
