Prior to 1978,the members were elected by a joint sitting of the LA and LC rather than the LA alone

Correction of important error

The following information is incorrect:

In 1836, it was radically reformed, with the number of members increased to 54, with two-thirds of them being elected.

It appears to have been the result of a misinterpretation of the timeline on the Legislative Council history page [1], which is missing the date (1850) following the 1836 entry, and preceding the text "Australian Colonies Government Act passed, Council becomes 54 Members, 2/3rds elected". The aforementioned Act was passed in 1850, not 1836, and as such the figures given for the size of the Council are incorrect at that time. I have corrected the relevant section so that it contains accurate information, and will contact the administrator of the Legislative Council website with regards to correcting the oversight on their own web page also.

Structure[edit]

Basically what I said for the NSWLA. Crossbench on the crossbench, President separate. (Plus this one looks really strange. I think perhaps this particular design works less well on smaller chambers. Ninja trivia[edit]

Is that whole section not out of place? Possibly it deserves a brief mention, but a whole section in disregard of the huge amount of historical detail available about the Legislative Council? (With a "this section requires expansion" tag too???). Tony (talk) 02:11, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
