psychiatry?[edit]

Does anybody know, whether did Balance been treated because of a mental disorder/taken drugs (I mean psychiatric, not psychedelic or methedrine or alcohol)?--84.163.98.75 22:10, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe that anyone considered him to have any other disorder besides alcoholism. His varied interests in unusual things wouldn't get him labelled sick if he hadn't have died the way he did. If he were still living, he'd be labelled an eccentric like his one-time collaborator Genesis P-Orridge. Still, I will look into it for you since asked. it's possible he did suffer from Depression or other problems. Sadly, his experiments with things like Chaos magic and other religions got him labelled a satanist, which he was not.Lisapollison 06:34, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
His obituary in the Guardian says he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Vauxhall1964 (talk) 19:46, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

doesn't talk about his death![edit]

nothing about his death 24.22.62.144 (talk) 03:05, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I've added citations to the section about his death. These include links to Sleazy's eulogy on the Threshold House website, and an article which mentions his death in the context of Ossian Brown dedicating his book to John. This page doesn't contain anything about Coil's sexuality, nor their exploration into the esoteric realm or their well known penchant for substances to aid their esoteric rituals. John's sexuality and interest in the esoteric realm was a big part of his life, and influenced his music and lifestyle immensely. I think these aspects of his life need to be included in this article. John was such an interesting artist, that this page really needs to be expanded to include more information about his life/ beliefs etc. Is there anyone up for the job? (I will attempt to expand it as I have time, however there must be avid Coil fans out there who could really do a great job!) Jihadcola (talk) 19:16, 27 April 2012 (UTC)Jihadcola[reply]

On an alias[edit]

Long before Geoff Rushton became John Balance, Edward Gordon Craig used this alias as a writer in The Mask magazine. Tom Craig, E. G. Craig’s grand-grandson, was Rushton’s friend in his school years, and co-published Stabmental with him. So, in my opinion, it may be possible that Balance took his alias as some kind of reference/tribute to Craig, though neither Keenan in England’s Hidden Reverse nor anybody else wrote on this point.
