Some of this should go into rap/hiphop history

Back in the day of mid-eighties and the beginning of 1990 (which is generally considered as "new-school" in the era of hiphop), before artists like tupac had changed his rapping voice and mike-presence wasn't limited to shouting and only hook-like/UUNNGHH! rapping. Before the puff-daddy like cissy/gangsta-glare-stuff, show ballet (aka. booty dancers) and special effects to spice-up a video-clip like tabasco wood do on food. We're talking serious mike-presence-skills. When it was necessary to have the skills on holding yer own on the mike before a crowd without any BS-talk, when the DJ cut to accapella-mode, and keeping on flowin' movin the crowd. When rappers really could tell a story with feeling and present the listener enough verbal food to create a visual of what the rapper was trying to tell. Nowadays, it's no more then a simple hook/line/chorus (even in bubbling/reggae). The rest of the lyrics are 7 out of 10 times unlistenable, shallow in my opinion, steep, hard to follow. Making you wonder how peeps like that with no-skills made it so far, winning various nationwide-known awards. Like those of very popular music stations.

Nowadays rap is more of a marketing aspect. The video makes more appearance due to dancers, visuals, glare, commercial-marketing things like clothing, coolness (COMBINED !) and eventually being sold like a famous burger ! The rapper or MC now is no more then 1 of those aspects, leaving this rapper not needing more than average skills. It became more like a puppet, played by the industry for the sole purpose of making money. It wouldn't surprise me that rappers 10 years from now could be generated by a visual windows-like program via a drop-down menu. How it has to behave, what things to do (like crotch-grabbing) what standard hooks/lines to say could be pre-programmed. Like clothing manufacturers know what styles of clothing in what seasons to drop on the market..

D Nice's style, influence on current artists goes here

All of this isn't at all the case for rappers of the likes of "D-Nice" From the hardcore, non-BS-ing, serious skillz-building, practising and maintaining, aspect in Hiphop, that (thank god) still lives (so due to that part) on today. And i hope it will stay. AKA underground or called whatever. That new era in hiphop beginning with the wu-tang and tupac/biggie saga is different, more commercial. It's also raised to the sky through the likes of very young peeps now in 2001 aged about 19 and under. They never knew what hiphop was like before that puff-daddy (or diddo) -era. The music was new to them and they took it as-is like a young baby wood being given food from a parent. And they ride that new era and just totally took over, riding the train-wagon containing new-hiphop things that appealed to them (due to commercialization), letting them think thát is what hiphop's all about.

Excellence in rap and hiphop is as difficult as in any performing art, easy to do very poorly, hard to do very well, etc etc etc

Nowadays any boy/girl on the corner of the street thinks he/she can rap. Beginning with coughing-up tupac and kim lyrics. And can i blame them that they think they can have a spot in the spotlights too ? no.. Situation is hilarious like a Benny Hill show.

Other artists who perform in similar styles to D Nice include...

Buy a cd of the likes of D-Nice, BDP, Roxanne Shante and have a good listen. Yes, i'm pretty biased ok. i think because i'm a pretty long-term listener of hiphop and other types of music. And of course everyone should choose to listen what he/she likes..

Similar to other forms of popular music, such as Country, many of the most talented artists do not get much popular exposure, and rely on word-of-mouth advertising among fans... etc etc etc

I'm just saying, try to hear the difference between those two era of rappers/artists and come with an opinion. Anyway the outcome of your opinion, it could prove some more understanding.

Right. We figured that out... ;) But opinion is not supposed to be baldly stated. :)

D-Nice, i like his style..

A few comments... Is it "D-Nice" or is it "D Nice"? First person ("I") is generally avoided here, and we avoid expressing personal opinions (see neutral point of view). We try to keep the articles fact-stating. So, could you re-write this article with that in mind? --Larry Sanger

Please rewrite. We will help.

Thanks.

I can't make heads or tails of this. Are these quotations of his?

No, they're mine, and I just learned they don't wrap like I thought they did. I am hoping this person will come back to check up and do a bit of rewriting. Probably won't, but one nevers knows for sure. In the meantime I might do a little more copyediting.
