Adding EXTERNAL LINKS[edit]

I am the webmaster of an external non-commercial website called "World Paper Money Picture Catalog". When I first learned of wikipedia a few years ago I thought your users would be interested to see historical images of banknotes from various countries. At that time I began adding text and links from my site in the appropriate wikipedia country sections.

I then received a message stating that if I added content from my site I would give up my copyright and that I should just add external links to my site. I have done that for some time until I just now have received a message stating that I should not add external links to personal websites.

Please clarify if you do not want my links to these important historical pictures and information about world currency which in many cases can not found on any other websites.

You should add links to your own sites, see Wikipedia:External links. --W(t) 14:16, 2005 Jun 5 (UTC)
Its not that your site is horrible its more how many links you are adding and to how many only tangentially related articles. The page on Canada, for instance, does not contain external links on specific matters like currency, stamps, etc. Rather those links should go on more specific pages like Canadian dollar. - SimonP 14:55, Jun 5, 2005 (UTC)

I'm confused by your comments. As seen above I was told to add external links to my site. Now you say don't do that.

My non-commercial site has loads of original info and images that are useful to wiki visitors. As an example see: http://www.numismondo.com/pm/sva/indexSV.htm

If you don't want me to add external links, that's OK - just be consistent in your guidance so we are not wasting each others time.

Revisiting, two years later[edit]

Hi. Please do not (effectively) promote that website across multiple entries, it is not permitted. Thanks. El_C 00:56, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. If you continue to ignore my warning, I will have no choice but to restrict you from editing. Please reconsider your approach. Thx. El_C 01:00, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, please note that, as the webmaster, our conflict of interest policy explicitly prohibits you from adding this website to entries. El_C 01:02, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, you stated that a link to the Canada Dollar section might be appropriate, however, it appears that if I am the webmaster of a site it is a COI to add a link to that site? So does that mean that you don't want me, as webmaster, to ever add any links from my site to Wikipedia?
