comments on EB1911[edit]

The material from the 1911 encyclopedia is interesting, but it is also highly innacurate in parts, with a strongly propagandistic and condescending cast. Hopefully I'll soon be able to carry out a major overhaul of the text, though I wouldn't mind if someone else managed to get around to doing so before I did.

Wole Soyinka's portrait of his childhood, Ake, offers a vivid portrait of Abeokuta during the Second World War. -- Dannyyee 10:25, 18 Apr 2004 (UTC)

I also agree with Lapite about the condescending nature of the 1911 entry, though I do know that the context of the times always gave a Eurocentric view of things. On the issue of Egba independence, this was revoked in 1914 by the British, who invaded Egbaland, and forced the main chiefs into signing away their independence. My great-grandfather was one of those chiefs, and he commited suicide rather than live under the Brits.

I agree with the fact that being a post since 1911, there is need for update. i noticed that list of Obas in Egba land are not included in the Article. i think we need to work on it.Olaniyan Olushola (talk) 22:04, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
