seemingly there is no support other than what the author and people of a similar persuasion seem to be perpetrating at will. the term hokie does not refer to a turkey, except when certain groups of people have done their best to put that into the encyclopedia.

What are you talking about? RickK 03:12, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)

I'm saying that the evidence that they cite originates from a biased source as does the article, whereas the previous version of the article admited that possible bias, and provided evidence of that other views.

So fix the article and cite a less biased source. That's what wiki is all about. • Benc • (a VT alumnus, by the way) 07:41, 21 Aug 2004 (UTC)

well we should be clear, that the best as can be discerned in my estimation, that the only reason why this word entered the agrarian definition is perpetrated by an author from U.V.A., and thus is likely not aimed unbiasedly.

Being from the Virginia border, I have always heard that the VPI students actually called their tom turkey mascot a "hokie bird", yet I have no idea where the term hokie originated, it should be defined as a neutered tom turkey, which is what the mascot indeed was.

This article needs help[edit]

Most of it looks to be verbatim from VT's FAQ page (or something very much like it).

Really, it's redundant with Hokie Bird, not that it is too much better.
