What a strange article. One comes to an article on Susann expecting some discussion of her one claim to fame, Valley of the Dolls, and its place in pop culture. Instead we hear about her poodle.

Trivia[edit]

Can someone add something about how she was an invited guest to the party Sharon Tate hosted the night she was murdered? she ended up not being able to make it to the party. I think its a good trivia quote. Here is a site for quotation : http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Hills/1943/pge7.html

That's pretty much (for lack of a better word) an urban legend. There was no party that night. Susann wasn't being completely honest because a TON of people claimed they were invited that night. As stated in the first post in the talk page, much of the material was taken almost verbatim for Barbara Seaman's biography, without any citation. I read the same information there, and I consider that a credible source.Jeffpw 19:03, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This biography is an embarrassment(sp), ALMOST as bad as my spelling :). ANOTHER bio with ZIPPO footnotes. It should be nuked, imo. The bio by Seaman is a rag. Seaman's article in Wiki should be nuked as well....where to begin????? --Tom 14:08, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edits[edit]

I reworked the article & added the info box. Most of the info I took did come from the Swingin' Chicks website. I did try to leave the article as neutral and factual as possible. The Swingin' website is actually fairly accurate even though it includes a bit of hearsay. If anyone has a problem with how the article is written or structured, let me know or change it up. Concealing the fact that she was Jewish[edit]

My edit summary was quite clear: "Please review WP:OPENPARA". Did you click on the link provided in it? WP:OPENPARA. In particular, please note item 3.2: "Ethnicity or sexuality should not generally be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability." Was Susann's ethnicity relevant to her notability? Also, you inserted the claim that both her parents were Jewish, but as far as I can see, the source you provided never makes that claim. You should have been that specific from the start - 1. Regarding the opening, I'll move the Jewish addition to the first paragraph, if you concur. 2. About both her parents being Jewish, please read the source - "Her maternal grandmother, Yuccha (Ida) Kahalofsky Jans, fleeing from pogroms in Kiev, arrived in Philadelphia on February 23, 1882... ". The Jews were the only people persecuted and suffered in the Ukraine Pogroms. And her father - Please read the whole next paragraph there about him and his ancestors. 3. You should agree to at least add the fact you do agree to, about the one parent. Concerning the other, I CALL AGAIN FOR ANY OTHER READER TO HELP ME AGAINST YOU. Why use the pejorative term "concealing", and ask for help "AGAINST" me? This is highly combative. You have a source that says Susann in Jewish. Feel free to include that in the body of the article. O.K. To my paranoid Jewish brain it seemed you were following me and erasing every mention of good thing I had edited about Jewish persona. Let's start from scratch and work TOGETHER at the three relevant articles. Here for one - Why wouldn't you see the source I had provided sufficient enough to say her parents were both Jewish? Assuming it's the mother, you have your doubts about - Here's what the relevant paragraph says about her origins: "...fleeing from pogroms in Kiev, arrived in Philadelphia on February 23, 1882...". As said before, only the Jews were the victims of the Pogroms of 1882 in Ukraine. You have a source that reliably indicates Susann is Jewish. Why not just include that? Feel free to add that her maternal grandmother "...fleeing from pogroms in Kiev, arrived in Philadelphia on February 23, 1882...", though it seems quite WP:UNDUE, given the brevity of this article. I am going to edit, at the beginning of the "Early Years" paragraph - "Jacqueline Susann was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to a Jewish family, Robert Susann,....etc." Is it O.K.? Seriously remove it[edit]

Remove the part about Susann being invited to a party at Sharon Tate's on August 8, 1969, but deciding not to go. As someone else has pointed out, it's simply not true. Every celebrity and every celebrity's brother who was alive in August 1969 has claimed to have been invited to Sharon Tate's that night, because ooo-eee ooo-eee and celebrities are natural born attention seekers. No party was ever planned and the only people invited to the house on August 8, 1969, were Jay Sebring and Sandy Tennant, who declined, unless you count the housekeeper, Winifred Chapman.
