Hi Babyoil,

I'm glad to see you editing again. It seems you got quite a deluge of advice last time[1], but I'd like to offer a few more pointers for you:

  • Every page has an "edit this page" tab at the top, and may have additional "[edit]" links further down. The latter are for modifying (or deleting) just the following section; use the tab at the top if you want to change more than one section.
  • On talk pages, it's normal to add new comments at the end, starting a new section if appropriate. At the top of talk pages, you'll see a "+" tab that makes this easy, but unfortunately it doesn't sign your comment for you; you still have to use ~~~~ (four tildes) for this.
  • This is your user talk page. You're quite entitled to archive it, or tidy it up, but it's not customary to blank it, and some people might find this suspicious or rude. I'm telling you this, not to harrass you, but so that you know how to avoid potentially offending others.
  • Edit pages have a button for "Show preview" that allows you to see your change in context before saving. This is really useful for avoiding some of the inevitable typos.
  • Edit pages (excepting the "+" ones) also allow you to enter an edit summary. This appears on the page's history page, and also on other people's watchlists, and special pages like Recent Changes. In general, edit summaries persist for ever and cannot be deleted. With this in mind, I encourage you to supply edit summaries, but think about how they will come across to other users, espcially those you name in the summary.

Again, welcome to Wikipedia. Please drop me a line if you have any questions. Bovlb 20:33, 2005 May 30 (UTC)
