report of vandalism

Please - I have been searching for a spot where I can communicate this problem, and chose this spot because you say fixing vandalism is your first priority. I don't understand much about computering, and don't have time to read/research all this. I'm just a mom who went to the Ronald Reagan entry to get some information for my child's essay, and found the first few lines contain some really disgusting material. I hope you can fix it. Thank you.

Your server sounds great! I am assuming we can do live broadcasts, so we can play pre recorded stuff every 15 minutes with on-the-hour live breaking news. I could either Skype audiochat with you and you can convert it into a live stream, or I could prepare a breaking news clip 5 minutes before the hour, and send it to you to broadcast. Right now, we are just offering clips to be downloaded. We don't have that many volunteers to make a full streaming radio station yet, but it's definitely something we'd like to eye in the future. Right now, we're just looking to be fillers for other stations, in a way that will also promote our project.

If you had an existing radio station though, you could always add our clips to your lineup - which would be more practical at this point in the project. I have no doubt in my mind that we can someday have an hourly update, but as of right now it's more of a half-day update. Perhaps when we get to the point where releases become a habit, we could have enough content to have our own streaming radio station. --Mrmiscellanious 10:44, 19 May 2005 (UTC)

I have closed your RFA early under WP:SNOW because the result was a foregone conclusion. Wikinews and Wikipedia are different projects with different and constantly evolving policies which need to be kept tabs on. The lack of recent experience, as told by your edit count - 2 edits in the two years leading up to this RFA and zero in the last 18 months - was the main reason why the nomination failed. However, there is some good advice given by the oppose !voters, some of which I'll quote here:

• "[S]pend 5-6 more months on the English Wikipedia, make a lot of useful edits (just don't get editcountis), read over the admin reading, get some admin coaching, take some virtual classroom classes, and we'll see from there. If you do that, and try again for RfA, then we'll probably see the votes change."
• "I suggest gaining some more, recent experience and then trying again in a few months."

Ryan, judging by what you wrote here I think you misunderstood my oppose opinion on your RfA. I apologize, I obviously did not make myself clear. On the issue of 500 edits, I'm not saying you have to have at least 500 edits. In fact I personally consider 2500 a minimum for candidates. The reason for this is not some arbitrary number, but rather being an admin here is a complex business. You face a wide range of different situations that require you to apply the many different policies and guidelines of the project. In order to judge how you would react to a wide enough variety of situations I need to be able to look across a lot of edits to see how you apply and interpret policy. The handful you have in the last month really don't give me a basis to do that. The problem with the edits of 2 years ago is the project has changed a lot in that time, so those edits are less relevant than more recent ones.

While your experience on other projects is great, it doesn't tell us much about how well you understand policy here. The policies and guidelines of English Wikipedia are very different than those of WikiBooks and WikiNews. Your experience there doesn't translate to here, so we can't count all those experiences towards judging your suitability to be an admin here. We had a WikiNews admin who came to RfA recently and it quickly became clear that he had little understanding of en.wikipedia policies and that while well meaning he was about to start enforcing WikiNews policies that were in direct contradiction to the en.wikipedia policies. While I've no reason to believe you would do the same, I would like to see enough evidence to see that you know the policies, just as I would from any other admin candidate. Think of it as applying WP:V to candidates.
