Where in WA?[edit]

I'm working on an article on the flora of Australia, I was wondering if you were in the vicinity of a vegetation type called hummock grassland, the map is here it's the lovely flesh toned area. If you are would it be possible for you to get a picture? --Peta 04:15, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • You're right, I'm after pictures of the arid variety. I'll keep looking on Flickr for something suitable. Thanks. --Peta 06:40, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Dunsborough Bakery[edit]

I dont really want to make anything of it, the bakery is good but barely worth a mention, i toned done the sentence a bit. Anyway the bakery isnt even there anymore its moveing and selling the small shop for about $4 million (property prices have gone mad in this area) and i actually like the pies from the other bakery more. I have a very nice pictrure of Cape Naturaliste from the air my brother took, ill find it and upload it. I didnt even realise it didnt have an article. Hossen27 13:06, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Cape Naturaliste[edit]

No, but i do remember hearing it a few times, when i get some time ill go down to the busselton historical society and ask or its probably in the new busso history book which i think you can buy in town. Hossen27 13:16, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I found something on the Shire of Busselton that talks about the Railways Discontinuance Act 1985, maybe that will give you somewhere to start. Hope that helps Hossen27 13:24, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lakes of Australia[edit]

Hello. I think there is no need to have for example "Lake Amadeus, Northern Territory", when no other Lake Amadeuses exist. Did I broke some Australian naming conventions? I know there is a naming convention similar to the American one, to name towns in Kingscote, South Australia style, instead of "Kingscote". I think it shouldn't apply also for rivers or lakes. Even the American or Canadian rivers or lakes don't use this naming convention - Darwinek 17:26, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was hoping to find at least one article on an obscure WA watercourse during that exercise. I thought your Nyaania Creek was it, but I'm afraid you've been topped by Tin Dog Creek. If someone will go to the trouble of writing an article about Tin Dog Creek, then we should probably assume that all sixteen Spring Creeks will eventually have their own article ;-)

Thanks for the opinion. I've come to the view that this material does indeed belong on Wikipedia. I'll be moving it into the main space as soon as I have enough "remarks" to justify the "Remarks" column. Feel free to edit it if you want.

So many of these watercourses link to suburbs (e.g. Pickering Brook, Southern River), towns (e.g. Margaret River, Boyup Brook), or something else (Wolfe Creek is a creek and a crater!). I feel more and more strongly that the naming policy for towns and suburbs should be consistent with other geographic place names. I have this fantasy that we'll implement the brackets convention, give everything a chance to settle down, then convince everyone to change town and suburbs over to the new convention to be consistent. Republic of Kaliszium = zero Google results[edit]

There is no place for fraudulent content in Wikipedia. Suggest you read WP:V if this is unclear. --Centauri 23:15, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

{user pd}[edit]

nice to find {user pd} so I can replace the monster Template:MultiLicensePD. :-) Pls mention an issue where Wikipedia:WikiProject_Rivers#Naming does not work? Tobias Conradi (Talk) 13:41, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

West Coast[edit]

I wich the explorers of Australia had been a bit more creative with their naming. Anyway the Gazetter doesn't have and town called mount read, if there was something there in the past that isn't there now if should just go into the mountain article. I'm not sure about the mining towns category - it would seem more useful to have a category for historic mines and that could also include assocaited towns.--Peta 01:45, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Rename is done. You should be able to do simple moves like that yourself. Would I be able to take you up on an earlier offer of pictures of the button grass fields in Tassie?--Peta 01:57, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've taken a look at the mining town categories, I think they are kind of misleading since many mining towns aren't just mining towns, and there are numerous towns associated with the mining industry where there is no mining (Gladstone, Newcastle- historically), and there is a problem with current/historic sites. I think the information would be better as a list than as categories.
There is no hurry for the photo, whenever you get around to it will be fine.--Peta 02:05, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My most thorough reference on the subject, Okely (1991), referred to him as Dick, so I assumed that was his most commonly used name. If there's any doubt at all, we should use the full name. Since you've cast some doubt, I'll move it to Richard Robson immediately. Snottygobble 02:40, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I added it to Freycinet. If you're doing a Cape Mentelle, maybe consider a similar disambig page with Edme Mentelle, 1730-1815 French mapmaker. -- I@n 03:47, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

eastern goldfields[edit]

Yep it was just to put something in place for mundaring weir article. Gnangarra 10:36, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok I would have thought that Goldfields-Esperance would be suited to that kind of coverage Gnangarra 11:02, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My knowledge is more towards the Murchison Goldfields due to famliy connections with the area Gnangarra 11:13, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mining towns[edit]

Hi. You asked this seems to be a new cat with nothing in it, bit curious of the raison d'etre? Surely Tassie towns is sufficient.? If you start a cat like this does this include towns gazetted but no longer in existence? The rasion d'etre stemmed from the discussion at Talk:Mining in Australia. Petaholmes has now nominated for deletion. I disagree with deletion but agree need to be populated. I had done a bit of work on Category:Mining towns in Victoria. I think it is a meaningful distinction and there are distinct characterisitcs of mining towns. Happy to talk more on the subject. Regards--A Y Arktos\talk 10:58, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
