Fragment vs phrase[edit]

I changed the opening sentence back to read fragment rather than phrase as phrase (music) already means something else, something usually taken to be larger than a figure. Hyacinth 22:36, 20 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Requested move: "Musical scale" → "Scale (music)"[edit]

I have initiated a formal RM action to move Musical scale to Scale (music). Contributions and comments would be very welcome; decisions of this kind could affect the choice of title for many music theory articles.

References to Grove Dictionary[edit]

Hello,

I have added the Grove's Dictionary under general references and page number to corresponding description within the book.

The Grove dictionary has an extensive description of figures in music and I'm thinking of incorporating the whole text in this article. Don't worry; the book is in PD.

"Music of a high order"?[edit]

What on God's green Earth is going on in the latter part of this article? Whence comes all the ideology about what makes music a "work of art" separating from the "mass of slovenly" popular works...? I mean come now. Agree or not, this has absolutely no place in an encyclopedia article.
