Classification[edit]

I've taken the liberty of changing the classification from protestant to baptistic. While there were protestant groups to join with the E free church, its origins are not connected with the catholic church. I've added the Evangelical Free Church of America to the List of Christian denominations as Protestant list under "Misc. movement churches". I'm not sure if there is a better place to put them, and perhaps someone who is more familiar with them can make a better decision. It seems that the language in the article is a little confusing pertaining to the part about the changes made to the church's theology in 2005. The article says something along the lines that the revision seems to "eliminate Premillennialism... as [a] doctrinal standard". However, the EFCA link provided in the same paragraph distinctly demonstrates the EFCA church's belief in premillennialism. I suggest this language of this article be reviewed. - mvanzante 11:14 28 Jun 2006 (CDT)

WP Calvinism?[edit]

TEDS Professors not necessarily EFCA[edit]

I am removing Wayne Grudem and D. A. Carson as EFCA leaders. Grudem was ordained Baptist General Conference and was an elder at a Vineyard Church while at TEDS. (See http://www.vineyardbi.org/docs/INTROS/INTRO-Position_Paper_4.pdf). D. A. Carson was ordained in the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches in Canada. Meaning of "Free" in Evangelical "Free" Church Title[edit]

The word "Free" in the title "Evangelical Free Church" is a reference to separation of church and state. I has it's origins in the European Free Church traditions which are legally recognized, but alternative traditions to the state sponsored churches found in much of Europe. In particular, the Lutheran churches of Norway and Sweden had developments which occasioned the rise of non-state sponsored church congregations, giving rise to the Evangelical Free Churches of Norway and Sweden respectively. No, not really. "Separation of church and state" is a loaded phrase that has come to mean much more than when Thomas Jefferson originally coined it. (See <https://www.loc.gov/loc/lcib/9806/danpre.html>. Note that Jefferson's "wall" was like a one-way wall; the only point of his metaphor was that the State should be prevented from interfering with religious practice, but he said nothing to the effect that churches and religious beliefs should not influence political ideas.) The denomination's name does not intend all the meanings and implications currently associated with it. It simply means that the church is free from the control of and association with the state, as opposed to a state church. It does NOT mean that its members have no desire that their religious beliefs should inform their public values, which extend into politics and government. The EFCA makes no statement denying that its members should reason from their worldviews, informed by the Bible, in order to make convictions and conclusions about political issues.
