Title should be Zeuglodon[edit]

If Halrlan agreed with Owens that the genus should be renamed Zeuglodon why isn't this page named zeuglodon. That point is the last point made in the taxonomic history of this page, so it must be most recent or requires an edit, because the agreed upon naming should be the primary name. Except that, by the time Harlan brought his specimens to Owen, he had already named it Basilosaurus, and his and Owen's attempt to rename it as "Zeuglodon" was considered invalid because giving an inaccurate name is, in taxonomy, not a valid justification for take-backs. I mean, you are aware that, in taxonomy, the oldest valid name takes precedence, and that having new information that makes the oldest valid name inaccurate or erroneous does not count as a reason to invalidate it, right?--Mr Fink (talk) 03:01, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Also Harlan never released a paper to rename it to Zeuglodon.--Bubblesorg (talk) 18:36, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Basilosaurus living in New Zealand[edit]

This book seems to indicate something like that, as well as the article of New zealand geographic. The book:https://www.dropbox.com/s/ck1z90hfv0qydj3/All%20whales%20in%20the%20WWD%20series.pdf?dl=0 --Bubblesorg (talk) 22:13, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what it refers to, but probably just some similar fossils. This paper[1] has this: "Fordyce and Watson [74] described some “archaic fossil mysticeti” from New Zealand as showing osteosclerosis or “peripheral osteosclerosis”, after describing the vertebra USNM 510831a (Fig. 14) as itself osteosclerotic. Further investigations and comparisons would be required in order to determine whether thespecialization in Basilosaurus resembles that of these early mysticetes." I see, I will try to ask haines what he was refering to then--Bubblesorg (talk) 23:12, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
