7th Gobbo glitch[edit]

While going through the ice island level "Riot BRRRR" I got a gobbo at a certain spot, then when I returned to it,there was another there and all in all I have a saved SEVEN Gobos in that level-but every level has only 6 and it gave me acess to the puzzle level long before I got that.Someone else have this?

New Babylon 2 (talk) 14:42, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can do this in the first level "And so the Adventure Begins" too. It messes up the puzzle level though. (GT4GTR (talk) 13:00, 30 September 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Assumptions[edit]

"It is assumed the project was never established due to the age of the magazine and Argonaut Software's closure in 2004, or postponed as a future opportunity for Fox Interactive to rework Croc to be competitive in today’s market dominated by titles like “Jak and Daxter”, “Ratchet and Clank” and “Spyro The Dragon”."

This needs to be rewritten. You cannot make any assumptions unless many reliable sources agree on that assumption. Please rewrite, remove, or cite. Neshcom 03:52, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Croc Legend of the Gobbos.jpg[edit]

Image:Croc Legend of the Gobbos.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:42, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comments prior to GA[edit]

I won't be doing a full review of this article, but there are some major things that need to be fixed for it to reach GA:

  • The gameplay, release, and sequels sections, and part of the audio section, are completely unsourced. For the former, use reviews and previews, and if needed the game's manual. For the rest, find articles on websites and in magazines.
  • As far as I understand (I've never played Croc), this is not primarily a plot-driven game, so you should probably trim down the plot summary a bit. You should also rewrite some things to be more encyclopedic and less a replacement for playing the game - so "One day, a malicious band of villains known as the Dantinis invade the peaceful Gobbo Valley. Lead by the iron-fisted Baron Dante, who despises the Gobbos for their blissful happiness, the Dantinis begin capturing the Gobbos and putting them into cages." can be changed to "One day, Baron Dante and his band, the Dantinis, invade Gobbo Valley and capture the Gobbos, putting them in cages."

Additionally, you have some very short sections, which leads to a "choppy" reading experience. I would suggest merging Concept, Design, and Audio into a single Development section, merging Promotion into the main Release section, and sales into the first Reception paragraph (probably so it comes before the review information in that paragraph, so that the text doesn't go reviews->sales->reviews). Also, don't write non-English release dates in the infobox unless the game is from another region (so Japanese release dates for Japanese games only - Croc would just have European, North American, and Australian/New Zealand dates).--IDVtalk 21:02, 23 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, thanks very much for the feedback. I will make sure to work more on the article when I get the opportunity and take your suggestions into account when I do so. TheDisneyGamer (talk) 21:59, 23 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Reception sources[edit]

I noticed that this article's Reception section was a bit thin on specific reviews. Here are a few:

Hope these help. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 13:23, 26 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Oh dang, that's actually really helpful! Thank you!! I'll make sure to get to adding some of these whenever I get the chance. TheDisneyGamer (talk) 18:11, 26 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • I will review this soon, maybe we can get it done before your trip, if you have the time the upcoming days. I thought the controls in this game were hard as hell, so I'm not sure if I ever finished it, so maybe I will finally know the ending by reading this article... FunkMonk (talk) 11:13, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • First, citations are not really needed in the intro, since it is only supposed to be a summary of the article body, and should not have unique info. Any info there is already cited in the article body.
  • The second fair use image could use a template like the main one has.
FunkMonk, what template would you suggest the image be put in? --TheSandDoctor (talk) 23:22, 14 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The same as the first image of the article. FunkMonk (talk) 13:13, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • "a series of several courses" Sounds redundant. Either series or several is enough.
  • "Croc has a fairly simple set of moves" Simple compared to what?
  • Added "compared to other 3D platformers at the time such as Super Mario 64" (Then again, I suppose I'd probably need a source for a statement like that...)TheDisneyGamer (talk) 16:30, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
A source would be needed. What does the source used say? FunkMonk (talk) 21:37, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • You should introduce who Croc and the Gobbos are outside the intro too. The intro should have no info not found in the article body.
  • Went ahead and introduced the Gobbos in the plot section, and also inserted a brief introduction of Croc in the gameplay section.TheDisneyGamer (talk) 16:30, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • "much larger than the other Gobbos" Remove other, Croc is not a Gobbo.
  • "Croc: Legend of the Gobbos began life" Life? Strange way to put it, this is a game... Began development. Also in the intro.
  • " player controlled Yoshi" Introduce Yoshi. "The Nintendo character Yoshi" or such. Also in the intro.
  • Noted and changed to "Yoshi from Nintendo's video game series, Super Mario" and "Yoshi from Nintendo's Super Mario series" respectively.TheDisneyGamer (talk) 22:38, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • prototype of the game and pitched the game to Nintendo" You don't have to say game twice in succession, you can say "it" the second time.
  • "Argonaut initially pitcher to Nintendo" Pitched?
  • "The voice talent for Croc" Not sure if talent is needed here.
  • "Notable for being an early example of a 3D platform game" You should state this under development as well, not just as a quote.
  • "and was first shown off at the 1997 Electronic Entertainment Expo in June 1997 as one of 4 games being shown off by Fox." You could say "presented" instead of "shown off" the second time.
  • "A commercial for Croc: Legend of the Gobbos was featured at the beginning of the VHS release of Casper: A Spirited Beginning." Why is it notable that it was shown in this particular movie? I bet it was shown in others as well?
  • "a suede/wool jacket, a leather backpack, a t-shirt, and a baseball cap." With prints from the game, or how are they related?
  • Went ahead and said "a copy of the game along with various pieces of Croc merchandise" to show that all of the apparel features prints related to the game, such as the logo, art of Croc, etc.TheDisneyGamer (talk) 22:38, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Aggregating review website GameRankings The PlayStation version of the game holds an aggregated review score of" Something wrong with the sentence.
  • "Popular YouTube comedian" I doubt this is stated in the source, which is just a video. Also, this is way too much WP:undue weight for a single, much later review. Should be cut down to a sentence.
  • Three mobile phone games based on the game, developed by Morpheme, were released" When?
  • Haven't been able to find reliable sources for each game's release date; instead added a more general "throughout the mid-2000s"TheDisneyGamer (talk) 22:51, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I'm here. Sorry , didn't notice your suggestions- I'll go ahead and add this page to my watchlist so I will actually see them. :)
Thanks for the notes/suggestions, though. I'm sorry I couldn't notice them way earlier- I'm unfortunately leaving tomorrow so I don't have much time to edit much of anything, but I will look through all of your notes and perhaps try to do whatever I can today. Feel free to add more notes while I'm gone, I'll try to have a look at them as soon as possible when I return. Thanks! TheDisneyGamer (talk) 16:04, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That's all I have. So perhaps it's possible to fix them before you leave... FunkMonk (talk) 16:05, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I might be able to get through all of them by tomorrow. I'm also gonna go ahead and note every change I make under each respective suggestion so I can keep track of which ones I've already changed as I go through your list.TheDisneyGamer (talk) 16:30, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that is standard practice anyway. FunkMonk (talk) 21:37, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Alright, FunkMonk, it looks like I've just about went through all of your suggestions. Feel free to look through all of my changes I've made over the past 8 or so hours and cite anything you feel is still wrong with the article. Thanks much! TheDisneyGamer (talk) 22:57, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good to me now, so I will pass it. You should perhaps still look for whether the controls are compared with those of Mario 64 in some source, or consider rewording it. Also, the second image could still need the same description/fair use template as the infobox cover. FunkMonk (talk) 21:30, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, fantastic. I'm just returning from my trip and I'm happy to see that the article has passed. I will try to fix up the 2 things you mentioned when I get the chance. Thank you very much! TheDisneyGamer (talk) 20:33, 13 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
