Re: Carl Chun/Vampire Squid[edit]

Hi Josh;

I got the colour version of the Vamyroteuthis illustration used at Vampire Squid from the Australian Government's National Oceans Office (source file here). Although it's the same size, perhaps someone there would know where a print quality copy could be obtained.

Before I found the colour version, I used this grayscale version from NOAA. Note that in this case there is a much higher resolution image available (1801x1269). With a little Photoshop/GIMPing, the grayscale version could be edited to approximate the colour version; the posterior most pair of finlets could be removed if desired (as they were in the colour version), since they represent an intermediate (subadult) form of the species. I could try to do this myself if your need is urgent, but it would take some time to do properly. (If I may ask, what do you plan to use the image for?)

While I'm here, I should welcome you to the project! That link is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia, its policies, and tutorials. (Normally someone would give you a copy/pasted boilerplate welcome message, but all the relevant info is contained within the welcome link.) One quick tip: It's customary to sign messages left on talk pages, which you can easily do by appending four tildes (~) to the end of your message, like this: ~~~~. I hope the above was of help to you! -- Hadal 14:21, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)
