My user name honors the Reverend Doctor Robert Stirling, 18th Century Church of Scotland Pastor and Garage Inventor. He is said to have been motivated to invent the Stirling Engine when more than one of his church members had been maimed or killed in steam engine explosions. Such explosions were common in the early days of the Industrial Revolution.

I have always admired people who not only preach against social wrongs, but who take whatever ethical actions they can to right them.

Caring about apathyism

Greetings! I'm guessing you wanted to ask me about why I made apathyism into a redirect. I spotted the page on Recent Changes and saw that it was self-admittedly a neologism, and it didn't appear to have much widespread usage. I don't know if you're familiar with Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:No original research, but entries like that tend to get nominated for deletion, and subsequently deleted, unless they can be proven to be widely-used and encyclopedic. However, I *did* notice that someone searching for it might actually want to end up at apatheism.

I see that the two concepts are different; however, unless I'm mistaken, apathyism isn't likely to be kept. I can restore your original version and list it on Wikipedia:Votes for Deletion, where a wider segment of the community can give their opinions, too, if you'd like, but in my judgment it shouldn't be kept as it was. (Actually, *you* can restore your original version as well, by clicking on the "history" tab, selecting the version you want to keep, and then editing and saving that page. You can change the content of a redirect page by clicking on the link back to it underneath the title of the page you were directed to. However, reverting to an old version should usually be accompanied by discussion on the Talk page as to why.)

Please do consider contributing to other articles, though! None of this was meant as a personal criticism, just a comment on the suitability of the article's subject. Mindspillage (spill yours?) 18:21, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Apatheism

I was wondering about apatheism, and I supposed you could help me. I take apatheism to mean a lack of care toward the existence of deities and not thinking that the question is even important. However, if deities do exist, wouldn't it be entirely important? How can you defend that the question isn't important if deities do exist? Or is my definition wrong?
