Sankranti[edit]

Hi. Sankranti is a Sanskrit astronomy term defined as entry of Sun into a zodiac. There is a sankranti, roughly on the 14th of every month, when the sun passes from one sign of the zodiac to the next. There are twelve signs of the zodiac, and thus there are twelve sankrantis as well (from Mesh Sankranti (April 14) to Meen Sankranti (March 14)). On Makar Sankranti the Sun starts travelling north, while on Karka Sankranti, the Sun starts travelling south on the celestal sphere. I hope that helps. deeptrivia (talk) 23:56, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
