Pessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will[edit]

I was looking up Gramsci's “Pessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will” and Antonini, F. (2019). Pessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will: Gramsci’s political thought in the last miscellaneous notebooks. Rethinking Marxism, 31(1), 42-57. notes that this motto was created by Romain Rolland and that Gramsci "explicitly attributes it to Rolland" who had it in a review of Raymond Lefebvre - The Sacrifice of Abraham. Mentioning it here as I thought it might be nice to include but was not sure how - or indeed if it should be. (Msrasnw (talk) 09:53, 26 April 2022 (UTC))[reply]
