Get this right: I didn't think the Noel Gallagher article was going to fly through the nomination thing.

I was looking for a bit of constructive critisism with which I hoped to raise the quality of the article, what I don't need is some prat taking digs at me because I missed the "t" off of "it". Good Lord! I'm typing with a broken arm, and I'll openly admit I'm not perfect anyway.

And, I don't know how slow you think I am, but that wasn't the only change I made after putting it up there. Most of it was removing POV.

And what have you ever contributed to that page?

According to many other users which time, nor writing space will not permit me to copy to this location Alsaconf will not work in many situations with Knoppix when the soundcard is not detectable. Sometimes there is a *.ko file missing or other a dev files not being avaliable. Other times it is some kind of other error for which I have no explaination for. Actually, it's pretty rare that I put pages up for AfD. I haven't been participating on there nearly as much lately as I have in the past, though I do still try to contribute often to discussions about changing AfD (e.g. Wikipedia:Deletion reform). In my view, Dan Hoyt probably deserves his own article since he's had a fairly good amount of news coverage; I'd say weak keep in an AfD for that article. As for the main Asian fetish article, I've thought several times about AfDing it (List of ethnic stereotypes attracted a lot of different editors, but it was deleted as inherently POV / not citing its sources, which is the problem Asian fetish has), but I've tried to stay optimistic that it would turn into a well-written, well-cited, NPOV article. --Idont Havaname 04:06, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

• I think that stereotype regarding "weaker" white men is probably common, but it certainly does need one or more scholarly references, as does everything else in the article, if it wants to stay. Personally, I've seen some Asians using this stereotype and others not. And there may be some truth to saying that white women reject the geeky guys before they get their jobs and get rich, but I would say that the term "who settle for Asian women because white women reject them" is definitely author's POV. "Settle for" is used more by people gossiping about their relatives; it should stay out of an encyclopedia article. You're every bit right in raising a criticism about that remark in the article; I'd say the article could use to explain some of the reasons behind that stereotype. (maybe it could start by mentioning Asians' usually higher emphasis on education and college degrees) --Idont Havaname 05:13, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

Image:Faye small.jpg

A different version of this image, found here, contains a border with the words 'Smash Hits'. Based on that border and a note in the news archive of gensteps.co.uk. I'm guessing it's from June 1999 Smash Hits Magazine. I'd say it's not on the cover, so I'm not sure it would qualify as fair use.

[1] Faye spoke of her dreadlocks ... She only had the dreads for 3 months though. ... H is on the front cover of the Smash Hits magazine and there is a two page interview about him. You also get a full page pic of Faye, which is great. It is easily worth the £1.25 asking price, don't miss the next issue when there will be a huge H poster!

There are also two similar and higher quality images, which are not cropped, located in the Faye Tozer gallery. An alternative image might be the cover of the CD-Single Someone like you. I think that may be fair use under Template:Albumcover. There is also a cover of [May 2001 Sky Magazine] and that would be Template:Magazinecover. I'm not sure either would be appropriate for this purpose, but at least they are not copyright violations. There are a couple of galleries of video captures which might also be fair use Template:Film-Screenshot or Template:Musicpromo-screenshot. 12.207.53.96 04:51, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

In general, yes, especially for images that don't fall into one of the blanket categories for which we have a specialized template (logo, movie poster, etc.). A "fair use rationale" that explains how the image meets those four criteria is needed to ensure that our use is indeed fair. See Wikipedia:Image description page#Fair_use_rationale for examples. Hi I ifded the Zeta Jones imageImage:2003icp.jpg, it is copyrighted RF Callisto in the last link you posted [2], probably an independent photographer. Most commercial photographers if asked would only allow non commercial use which isn't compatible with Wikipedia. Arniep 21:11, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

Hi currently I am adding free images uploaded to Wikipedia Commons by a hungarian film producer that she took at Cannes film festival. She says she has 100s so this will solve a lot of problems with people trying to find images as once we add a free image we don't really have excuse to use a fair use one. thinking about it, we don't have any excuse to use these commercial images as it is only fair use if you can't get a photo yourself or it is a non reproducable important event. As it is physically possible to take photos of actors at premieres and festivals I don't think we can claim fair use for any of these images. Arniep 21:33, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

Hi Bash. Just wanted to point out that tagging a photo as {{no source}} might be easier than listing it for deletion at WP:IFD. After a week, if the uploader hasn't provided the source, the photo can be speedy deleted.
