Untitled[edit]

No longer a stub. The full title of the paper is The Buffalo News; if someone can figure out how to bold and italicize "The," it might be nice. Too tricky for this guy. GeeZee 20:58, 14 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

2006? I agree that a citation is needed[edit]

Seems to me that the afternoon edition was abandoned within 10 years of the beginning of the morning edition. I remember it was a gradual process. At first home delivery of the afternoon edition was curtailed to only certain areas and available in limited areas and then only one afternoon edition. Two-Kate confusion[edit]

There is some confusion in the history. It says that in 1974, "longtime owner and publisher Katherine Butler, granddaughter of the founder, died and left no heirs." It then links to a 1974 article about the death of Mrs. Edward H. Butler, born Kate Robinson, who had married the son of the founder. So this Kate was the daughter-in-law of founder, not the granddaughter. This Kate was indeed publisher of the newspaper, but not long-time; she had taken it over when her husband had died just under 3 years prior. According to the article, she should have had an heir as she did have a surviving "daughter, Kate Robinson Butler, is the present Mrs. Bruce E. Wallis." So this second Kate would indeed be the granddaughter of the founders, and it's possible that she died without heirs after being the owner and publisher, but even so she could not have been long-time, since Older Kate had had those roles in 1974 and the paper was in other hands by 1977. No relevant information is in the E&P article cited after it (which you can now find archived.)
