Talk:De Stijl (album)

Jack's songwriting skills really matured on "De Stijl", probably as a result of the breakup with Meg."Truth Doesn't Make A Noise" in particular is one of the finest songs he has written so far. It represents a marked improvement over "The White Stripes". I have a question how could this be recorded after it was released. I think the fact box is wrong.

dates[edit]

according to this page the album was released before it was recorded. Released June 20, 2000 Recorded January 2001

so if anyone knows the actual release and recording dates they should fix this (I assume they are opposite of what they should be)--Tainter 06:50, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation[edit]

The article says the title is pronounced "duh-STILE," but that's still a bit ambiguous. Is "Stile" pronounced like "style" or "steel?" Funnyhat 23:10, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The 'ij' in 'stijl' represents the same diphthong as 'eil' does in the French word 'pareil'. It is basically the vowel 'e' as in English 'pet' followed immediately by a semi-consonant 'y' sound as in 'year'. I don't know how to explain this in simpler terms. 194.171.56.2 13:28, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Death Letter (The White Stripes).ogg[edit]

Image:Death Letter (The White Stripes).ogg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Recording location(s) inconsistent[edit]

The main article for The White Stripes says that De Stijl was recorded in Jack White's living room. They provide 2 citations. The album article for De Stijl says it was recorded at Third Man Studios, no citation provided.

It's entirely possible that it was recorded using both locations (or, alternately, Third Man Studios may have been located in Jack White's living room?). However, a citation for Third Man is needed; if the citations for the living room look accurate, this should be added to the De Stijl article. Likewise, if someone has an accurate source for Third Man, this should be added to the main White Stripes article.
