The Goofy Guy with a Stick Show was one of the forerunners in Australian comedy television. It featured Bert Sampson as the nominal "Goofy Guy", along with his family, who themselves came to be known as "the Guys". Sampson's signature sketch was to pretend that the stick he carried around with him for emotional support was in fact alive, and at times, it would violently attack him, until one of his family arrived to save him.

While the series only ran for a single season, it was eventually removed from Nine Network's lineup. However, over the years, it has become a cult classic, and with the release of the entire series on DVD, with commentary by Bert Sampson, interests have flared once again. The original stick has been enshrined in the Australian Celebrity Hall of Fame.
