Too much red and blue in the article. Not pleasing to the eye for reading

Statement from www.christopher-plummer.com

Note: Christopher Plummer was born on December 13, 1929. Reference: King of Players and other recent bio documentaries. (Some publications and news articles list a 1927 birthdate which he says is incorrect.) Many news articles continue to state his age incorrectly.

Wikipedia currently gives the year of birth as 1927. Has anyone got further, definitive, information? Arcturus 19:11, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Currently "The Easiest Ways To Fix Your Financial Problems" appears at http://www.christopher-plummer.com. Mcljlm (talk) 00:44, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I changed it in the intro and added a note at the bottom to account for the other sources. Hope that's OK. Everyking 19:22, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Nice one Everyking. I've changed the Year of Birth category and also added a link to the imdb database.Arcturus 20:42, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)

British-Canadian[edit]

What is the justification for calling him 'British-Canadian'?--Anchoress 08:37, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He Is Canadian[edit]

He is not British. Please stop calling him British. He was born and raised in Canada to two Canadian parents. (See his recently published memoirs.) He has lived most of his adult life in the USA. Thus, he can be called Canadian-American; but not British-American. There is no justification for calling him British. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.22.59.16 (talk) 09:45, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Honorary Knighthood?[edit]

He's a citizen of a Commonwealth Realm, so surely any knighthood he might receive from QEII would be substantive rather than honorary. No? The details of the knighthood are missing. JackofOz 20:41, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sound of Mucous[edit]

If I knew the citation I'd add that Plummer was known to refer to the Sound of Music as, well, that. Figureground 03:33, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a citation, although his later attitude perhaps makes it less relevant: https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2015/03/julie-andrews-christopher-plummer-the-sound-of-music

  • Although Plummer has been vocal about his distaste for the movie over the years—as a serious stage actor, he deemed the project silly and referred to it as The Sound of Mucus in interviews—his attitude toward the film seems to have softened.
  • “This is sort of a fairy story brought to life. And in a world that is so horrific—we know what’s going on now, it's inconceivable—it’s the last bastion of innocence in a very cynical time,” Plummer said, explaining why he thinks the G-rated film has endured, even in an age of special-effects-laden action franchises.

Comment: My impression is Julie Andrews could verify this. I have seen the *quote* too-- to my recollection I came across the quote in researching her or the movie. I personally find it *cute* and not offensive. And perhaps it is cleared up in the Article -- I have only read the first few paragraphs of the Plummer Article. Dreamscape with Dennis Quaid[edit]

Christopher Plummer was also in the movie Dreamscape (1984)with Dennis Quaid. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.148.145.165 (talk) 04:20, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Birth year?[edit]

Could we have some verification of the year of his birth. There are claims that the proper year is actually 1929 rather than 1927. Bottre73 (talk) 03:31, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Filmography formatting[edit]

Shouldn't this be done to match the other actor articles? They use the tables because the chronological ordering is very clear that way. This one is very messy without it...

I tried to table his filmography, but my edits were reverted twice by the same person. I see no reason why these edits were reverted. According to Wikipedia, a filmography table should be used for an actor, so I'm going to restore my edits. 79.124.57.97 (talk) 21:42, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Television - Star Trek[edit]

"Plummer has also tackled various television projects, including the legendary miniseries The Thorn Birds and the role of General Chang on Star Trek" - ok ... except that he played General Chang only in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, which was a movie for the cinema, not a television production. Moreover, the text "Star Trek" links to a (non-canon) video game based on the aforementioned movie. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.180.15.255 (talk) 20:15, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Saw the same problem before seeing this comment. I removed that part of the sentence, as it is factually inaccurate and poorly referenced.dstumme (talk) 02:36, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is this possible?[edit]

"Through his mother, Plummer is the great-grandson of Canadian Prime Minister Sir John Abbott,[2] and the great-great-grandson of Anglican clergyman and McGill acting president John Bethune.[3]" TheLordSayeth (talk) 06:13, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nice catch. According to Plummer in his memoir, both men were "great-great-great-grandfathers." I've corrected it, though it would be nice to find a secondary source for this. Sunray (talk) 06:29, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oops. Checking sources further, CBC Life and Times says that Plummer's mother was the granddaughter of Prime Minister John Abbott. That makes Plummer a great-grandson of both men (Abbott married Mary Bethune in 1849), which suggest that Plummer's memoir may be out by a generation or two. Sunray (talk) 06:47, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The confusion may arise because there were two men named John Bethune, both Plummer's ancestor. John Abbott, Plummer's great-grandfather, married the daughter of this John Bethune, making John Bethune Plummer's great-great-grandfather. The other John Bethune would be the first John Bethune's father, and thus Plummer's great-great-great-grandfather. I didn't add that to the article since it seemed redundant, plus they both have the same name, and if someone is interested, they can just click on John Bethune's page and see that his father was John Bethune. The person Plummer references in his memoir as a great-great-great-grandfather was the elder John Bethune, so it all makes sense. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 19:23, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

He now has the acting triple crown[edit]

Can someone add that to the opening of his biography? He is the first Canadian to win the acting triple crown (Oscar-Emmy-Tony). In addition he becomes the 16th person to win all three awards for acting. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.31.154.106 (talk) 16:49, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Christopher Plummer also costarred in the 1979 film "Hanover Street" with Harrison Ford and Lesley-Anne Down. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.236.44.53 (talk) 16:58, 26 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Muddled accolade[edit]

Under "Honours and Awards" appears this line: "In 1968, he was invested as Companion of the Order of Canada, at the time among Canada's highest civilian honours."

At the time? Among? The Order of Canada is by definition the highest civilian honour in Canada. Both it and the rank of Companion still exist. I don't get the qualifiers. Laodah 05:56, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Date of marriage to Elaine Taylor[edit]

In The Guardian's obit, it mentions that Taylor is "his wife of 53 years," which would put it c. 1967–68 and not 1970, unless the article's math is incorrect (unfortunately it isn't any more specific). rawmustard (talk) 18:34, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Similar reports in the Hollywood Reporter and Variety give the same report attributes to ICM Partners, his management. They reportedly met in 1968, which could be what the “wife and best friend” descriptor in article was referring to.--Bettydaisies (talk) 18:42, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cause of death[edit]

His wife, Elaine Taylor, said the cause was a blow to the head as a result of a fall. [1] MikaelaArsenault (talk) 18:38, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Years active[edit]

Someone keeps adding 2019 as the date ending for years active. According to Wikipedia, his last credit was in 2020. IMDB says that he had something filming in 2021. MikaelaArsenault (talk) 20:36, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

According to Paul Gross, Canadian actor, Plummer was working on filming King Lear, and Gross was to participate, when he died. He mentioned it on a interview about the death of Plummer. -- 65.93.183.33 (talk) 23:44, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

“On the stage”[edit]

Pinging @User: 2600:100F:B02B:8131:8919:75EB:C0C2:A20B @User:146.129.201.66 @User: 146.129.239.6. There has been significant reversions regarding the phrasing in in the beginning of the lead: “gaining recognition for his performances in film, television, and theatre”. “theatre” has been replaced with variations of “stage” and “on the stage”. Personally, I maintain that it should remain as it was, as it sounds more concise. The fields of television, film, and theatre, are typically referred to exactly as such with little variation. With consistent formatting, it could easily be summarized as “on the stage and screen” - but this is not so at the moment. This discussion is to prevent edit warring. Bettydaisies (talk) 06:32, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps it is just a neat way to help those editors who do not know which way Canadians spell theatre/theater? Davidships (talk) 22:17, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Greatly aged performers with decades of work through to the end[edit]

It might be something to create a list of performers who lived to a great old age and kept working, like Christopher Plummer or Betty White or George Burns -- 65.92.246.142 (talk) 07:22, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

We'd need objective criteria for such, and likely evidence that it was considered notable that they were working at such great old ages. DonIago (talk) 17:32, 3 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Christopher Plummer as King Herod[edit]

I have noticed there is no mention of Christopher Plummer in his character portrayal as King Herod in the all-star cast of 1977's Jesus of Nazareth. This was a major film and won a few awards even though Plummer was not nominated. cite: "ROBERT POWELL ON THE REAL JESUS OF NAZARETH". History. You might want to read again. It's mentioned in the article in at least one place other than the filmography. DonIago (talk) 05:59, 3 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
