Coyote[edit]

Lately, the coyotes seem to walk the park completely unafraid of man.

Chamomile[edit]

The "Chamomile" in the meadows of Yosemite valley has a beautiful scent, but seems to be a common un-noticed herb, only several inches tall. It grows from Santa Barbara's latitude northward to at least Yosemite's latitude. I identify it when its bud, about 1/4" high, becomes covered with a mass of tiny yellow-colored "dots" each no bigger than the period at the end of this sentence. If you crush the bud, it smells like Chamomile tea. Ancheta Wis 21:38, 23 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

I know the plant you are speaking of --- I can visualize it. I'm pretty sure it isn't chamomile though (don't drink it!). Roman Chamomile (the most common sort) looks like little daisies. I'll see if I can dig up what your flower is. --- hike395 22:06, 23 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I think I know what it is: Pineapple Weed (Marticaria matricarioides). See photo at [1]. Is that what you mean? It turns out it is drink-able (according to this web site).

Indeed, that is the one I have known since childhood. It has a beautiful smell; an un-remarked treasure of California, also called "Wild Chamomile". Ancheta Wis 00:03, 24 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Backwards Tour[edit]

Anybody notice that the whole East/West tour is backward? I mean, the tour is in the correct direction, but the text describing it keeps saying from "West to East with the flow of water", the merced flows westwardly. The Martindale mummies?[edit]

Why no mention of the Martindale mummies? They were bodies of a mother and child discovered in Yosemite by miners in 1885 (another site says 1891). The mother was nearly seven feet tall.

Ayres or Ayers? Link OK?[edit]

Two problems.

Penultimate paragraph under "The Mariposa Battalion" has two spellings for this artist's name. The link in the caption for the illustration goes to a page on someone with that name who was a South African ornithologist and is not described as an artist; was it the same man?
