Shouldn't this text be in telescope? The title is badly named either way ; the second word should not be capitalized or plural. --mav

I think this is a bit specialized area of telescopes. It may be to much for the telescope article? Maybe Optical telescope is a better title? I will write more about the different types later and perhaps draw some illustrations. Another question; which title is better: Ritchey-Chrétien or Ritchey-Chrétien_telescope? --Kricke

This looks just like a list so List of telescope types is a good title. Ritchey-Chrétien or Ritchey-Chrétien telescope is fine with me - so long as it is unambiguous and is what that telescope is commonly called. --mav

I moved the page to List of telescope types, so the old Telescope_Types (a redirect) can be deleted. --Kricke

Types[edit]

"Dobsonian mount" seems to be a misnomer. A Dobsonian is a telescope design that incorporates an Altazimuth mount. It is not a mount style in it's self. Dobsonian may need to be listed in a new category "Telescope Designs".(Halfblue 19:53, 12 March 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Added new catagory optical/mount designs. Also added Springfield mount, Poncet mount, and Turret Telescope. I guess pages will have to be put up for those some day (not that I want to make work for anyone ;^)) Halfblue 02:42, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Halfblue that "Dobsonian" should not be here. It is just a set of tricks for cheaply building a standard Newtonian on an altazimuth mount. So I have removed it. I don't know what "Turret Telescope" is; since no one has made a wikipedia page for it, I've removed it too.Edwinhubbel (talk) 07:31, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Added back in Dobsonians. Mechanical variations seem to fit in this list. Adding them as subs of type. 70.211.44.104 (talk) 02:33, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I came to this page expecting to see Dobsonian, I think it should be listed even if it is just with a note saying that it is Newtonian on an altazmuth mount. Kevink707 (talk) 05:38, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This list needs definition and scope per WP:LIST. It seems to describe "types" (the word is in the list title), not optical designs. There are many "types" such as Solar telescope, Dobsonian telescope, Comet seeker, etc. Like Kevink707 says, you expect to see them. Rewording for the logical def of this list. "This article doesn't cite any sources" Huh? It's a list of Wikipedia articles! Whose brainfart was that? 207.47.199.32 (talk) 17:40, 28 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
