It's a shame this article is so short, considering C.T. Onions has to be one of the most important and influential English lexicographers of the 20th century. Although he never worked alone on Oxford English Dictionary itself, he was the main force behind such other works as the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary; and I'm sure I've seen his name in the 1964 edition of the Concise Oxford Dictionary, although the COD article says that a certain McIntosh was the editor. -山道子 (Sewing) - talk 16:03, 26 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Actually, Onions did work alone on the OED, being one of the four principal editors who all worked separately. There is some doubt as to the pronunciation of his name. Some say it is pronounced like the vegetable; others pronounce it as if it were spelled, Irish-fashion, as O'Nions. It would be nice if a definitive answer could be established. - Kalimac

It would be good to get this page expanded. Leng T'che (talk) 23:21, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
