Wondering how to edit this U.S. City Entry?
The WikiProject U.S. Cities standards might help.

I have been trying to edit the notable natives and someone keeps deleting Dr. Ootist Arana, the TV personality and hair regrowth specialist (she did those infomercials). How can I get her on there?

Name origin obscure or not?[edit]

The introductory paragraph says the origin of the name is obscure, implying that maybe it's because there used to be walnut trees. The History section states the name definitely comes from walnut trees. Which is it? 151.204.233.138 (talk) 18:48, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've never heard anything definitive about the name and had thought that the walnut trees bit was speculation. Considering that neither statement is sourced, I would recommmend rewording the second mention to add some element of doubt to the origins. -- Irn (talk) 05:02, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So I did a little googling, and everything that turned up seemed to point to walnut trees. Specifically, I don't know how reliable the City of Nogales website is, but it states, "The name Nogales comes from the Spanish word "walnut" and Walnut trees once grew abundantly in the mountain pass between the city of Nogales, Arizona and Nogales, Mexico." But I think the best source is the website for the Pimeria Alta Museum, which strikes me as more reliable (because it is a historical society), and that notes that in 1882 "Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe RR builds depot straddling border, names “Nogales” after Elias ranch" and that "Los Nogales de Elias (site ambos of Nogales) land grant made to Elias family by Mexican government " in 1841, which would make me think the walnut tree claim is in fact correct. -- Irn (talk) 05:25, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just cut this good faith section out and am moving it here to discuss[edit]

" Lady Justice is supposed to have a blindfold on holding the scales of justice. This symbolizes that justice is blind."

There is no "supposed to have a blindfold" about Lady Justice statues. Some do, some don't. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 18:14, 15 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Non-notable people[edit]

Please do not add to the list folks who are not notable. Even if there is a footnote, that does not make them notable, per wiki standards. Thanks. Onel5969 TT me 20:38, 12 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. There are lots of people who are notable and have just not had an article written about them yet. I think that you removed Bogie's mistress and a quick search of the internet will show that she was much talked about. Are you going to force me to do a sloppy stub of her just to get her on this list? Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 00:35, 13 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's okay to disagree. However, there is no way that either of the folks I removed would survive an AfD discussion. The mistress' only claim to fame is that she was a mistress. Take a look at WP:1E. In addition, notability is not inherited: if she was my mistress, she would not be notable. Simply because she was shtupping a celeb does not make her notable. If there are substantial articles about her, not about her promiscuity with Bogart, than she might have some notability. I did a search, and there simply isn't enough there. Same with the other person. Onel5969 TT me 01:25, 13 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hubris. And you are notable, but notable enough for it to rub off on your mistress? Irrelevant anyway. 7&6=thirteen () 20:07, 13 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ah... some more civility. Thanks for your consistency. Perhaps it is irrelevant. And so is this alleged self-promoting mistress. Onel5969 TT me 21:36, 13 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You might as well start arming up your arguments for and against J.P.S. Brown because he is the next not notable Nogales born person to be written up. Carptrash (talk) 21:43, 13 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This isn't personal. If Brown meets notability criteria, Bravo. Wikipedia gets better by another good article about a notable person. The current article at AfD, however, doesn't meet those notability criteria. Onel5969 TT me 22:13, 13 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I removed this maybe notable person[edit]

  • Sergio Mendoza - Internationally acclaimed bandleader. Active. "Sergio Mendoza y La Orkesta", a.k.a. "Orkesta Mendoza", perform a Latin fusion style described as "Indie Mambo." b.5/23/1981

because the link goes to someone else. Carptrash (talk) 04:31, 2 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed him again. If you want him back here is what you need to do. (1) don't put in a link that leads to a Honduran football player (Sergio Mendoza) and (2) find a reference that is not his own web site. Carptrash (talk) 17:47, 2 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
