Names[edit]

Currently, the order of precedence lists the names of all 315 members of the Privy Council who arn't current Ministers of the Crown or State. Yet we don't list the names of the 267 MPs who arn't Ministers, Speakers, or the Leader of the Opposition, nor the 105 Senators. I understand that we don't want the list to get to ridiculous lengths, but we should try for some consistency on what we list and what we don't - if the 105 Senators are too many names to list, then so too should be the Privy Councillors (or vise versa). Those who are interested in the composition of those groups can look them up in their own page, surely.

Perhaps setting a number limit (eg 25?) would be a more reasonable way to do things.24.70.188.179 (talk) 16:50, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Leader of the Opposition in the Senate[edit]

I'm missing the Leader of the Loyal Opposision in the Senate. Shouldn't they be ranked immediately before the Leader of the Loyal Opposition in the House of Commons? Ds77 (talk) 08:40, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That would make sense, but LLOS is not mentioned at all on Canadian Heritage's list. I guess LLOS takes precedence only as an ordinary senator. Indefatigable (talk) 16:00, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jim Prentice[edit]

Since Prentice is a privy counsellor but none of the other premiers currently are, does he take precedence ahead of the rest of them? Indefatigable (talk) 19:06, 16 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Conrad Black[edit]

Since Conrad Black, Lord Black of Crossharbour (127 on the list) was stricken from the Order of Canada and the Privy Council by the GG effective January 31, 2014, I suspect he should be removed from the list. Do those who know more than me agree? Denis (talk) 17:35, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sharon Johnston[edit]

Something is not right here... We have surviving spouses of deceased Governor Generals in the list but, the current Governor General's wife is nowhere? Surely she would rank before former Governor Generals wives?Cebr1979 (talk) 10:05, 6 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Cebr1979: The only mention of spouses of Governors General in our sources is to "surviving spouses of deceased former Governors General", so we have to follow that.     • Thanks, Arctic Gnome! In thinking about it, it does appear we (as in my country, Canada) have been somewhat... let's just say... "odd" regarding the whole thing! Not only do we not include the spouse of the current Governor General, we don't seem to include the spouse of the Prime Minister (and not even for former and/or deceased ones) either! Absolutely bizarre, if you ask me, but... I do agree, of course, without sources, we can't state one way or another. Who knows? Perhaps someone of importance will see this and make any necessary adjustments to the order so we can all stop wondering(?)! I do thank you for responding, however! Incorrect link[edit]

This article links to Doug Phillips when it should link Doug Phillips (politician). I can't see how to fix this as it uses some strange template syntax {{#property:P1308|from=Q824910}}. Tassedethe (talk) 21:48, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's a module, not a template. See Module:Wd. You have to edit the corresponding page in Wikidata as the module draws data from there, not Wikipedia. Mgasparin (talk) 06:50, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Julie Payette[edit]

It is unclear why Payette's name was recently removed from the order of precedence as a former Governor General. I am aware that Payette left office under controversial circumstances. There is no reason to believe (at least that I am aware) that this would affect her standing in the order of precedence. Does the monarch belong?[edit]

I suppose this sorta question could be asked about all the Commonwealth realm precedence tables, except for the United Kingdom. I'm not going to 'delete' the monarch from this table. But interesting questions over at the Australian precedence table, has got one wondering about when a country's monarch doesn't reside in ones country (but rather another country), if that monarch belongs in the precedence table.
