1874 – In one of the longest cases ever heard in an English court, the claimant in the Tichborne case was convicted of perjury for attempting to assume the identity of the missing heir to the Tichborne baronetcy.
1904 – The most successful football club in Portugal, S.L. Benfica (first team pictured), was founded in Lisbon as Sport Lisboa.
1914 – In the aftermath of the Balkan Wars, Greeks living in southern Albania proclaimed the short-lived Autonomous Republic of Northern Epirus.
1939 – In one of the most famous errors in lexicography, the erroneous word "dord" was discovered in Webster's New International Dictionary by an editor.
1974 – The British election ended in a hung parliament after the Liberal Party, under Jeremy Thorpe, achieved their highest ever number of votes.

60th day of a leap year?[edit]

The page currently states that the 28th Feb is "the 59th day of the year (60th in leap years)".

Is it not the 59th day in every year regardless of if it's a leap year as the extra day falls after this one?

Use of 'meet'[edit]

1710 – In the Battle of Helsingborg, 14,000 Danish invaders under Jørgen Rantzau are decisively defeated by an equally sized Swedish force under Magnus Stenbock. This is the last time Swedish and Danish troops meet on Swedish soil. Should this not read 'meet in battle'? I guess the two armies have met many times since. Possible misplaced entry AT&T's incorporation.[edit]

The entry "1885 – The American Telephone and Telegraph Company is incorporated in New York as the subsidiary of American Bell Telephone. (American Bell would later merge with its subsidiary.)" is listed on this page (February 28).

When clicking on American Telephone and Telegraph Company, the resulting page shows a founding date of March 3, 1885.

There are no references that can easily be found on either page to clarify the correct date, but obviously one is wrong.

Perhaps someone with more research skills can ascertain the correct date.

It should also be noted that there is a very similar entry on the page for March_3.

Pat Monahan[edit]

Pat Monahan, lead singer of the group Train, was born on this date in 1969. Tried to input, but it didn't seem too keen for some reason.
