Hello James, welcome to Wikipedia. Here's some tips:

Other useful pages are: how to edit, how to write a great article, naming conventions, manual of style and the Wikipedia policies.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Angela. 13:12, Feb 24, 2004 (UTC)

Hi James. Angela noticed what university you came from and asked me if we knew each other. Are you on holidays? You missed out on a great time at Avoca. -- Tim Starling 13:21, Feb 24, 2004 (UTC)

Hey, I haven't done enought to go to Avoca. Doesn't matter. Anyway, I just thought I'd do a bit. I asked my brother to do some sound engineering stuff, and he thought the pages were rubbish, Microphones and Sound_recording. Here goes a timestamp... JamesHoadley 07:47, 25 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Hi James. I noticed your edits on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and etc. and decided your degree of intellect was worth considerable conversation. I appreciate your explanation for the exchange of kinetic energy to potential energy. I am interested in space exploration, obviously, and have contributed a bit to articles regarding it. I have also written the sample return mission article. Anyways, I thought an introduction was in order. My name is John and I from Tennessee in the United States. It is nice to meet you. --Marsbound2024 22:28, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

OK, nice to hear that John. The Sample return mission page is excellent, kind of different from most Wikipedia articles, because it's a summary article that goes across many different missions. For instance, the Apollo mission page is a summary of the ~11 missions, plus gives some of the political background. These pages tend to have lots of raw information dumped on them, and it's a lot of work to get a coherent article going. User:Evil_Monkey managed to do this on Apollo 8. JamesHoadley 03:23, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the encouragement as I am relatively new to Wikipedia (on the scale of several months, but only a few months for active participation). Evil_Monkey created a great article with Apollo 8. Good transitioning. Perhaps articles I create in the future will be even better than the sample return mission one. --Marsbound2024 18:10, 3 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Copyright Guidelines[edit]

It was pointed out that the images were actually copyright of the Jet Propulsion Lab, not just NASA. Their image use policy is slightly different [1]. If I'm misreading it, please feel free to remove the credit. Thanks. .:.Jareth.:. babelfish 14:20, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

MERs[edit]

Thanks for the feedback. I was worried it was a bit aggressive, but Opportunity rover was tagged for cleanup x April 2005 so I figured it was worth a shot. Now my head hurts after about 100 edits of that article, so I might have to leave it alone for a while...Kaisershatner 21:08, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New look for box headers[edit]

There's a discussion on the WikiProject Astronomical objects page regarding a new look for box headers. I was hoping you could drop by and comment. Thank you. — RJH 14:45, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:As Nasty As They Wanna Be cover.jpg[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:As Nasty As They Wanna Be cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Fair use and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — pd_THOR | =/\= | 16:28, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I've added a fair use rational for two of the articles that use it, and notified editors of Music of South Florida that the image will be removed from that article if they don't come up with a rational. (See article's talk page.) --JamesHoadley 12:56, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello JamesHoadley, an automated process has found an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, such as fair use. The image (Image:RFactor RaceCast Screenshot.png) was found at the following location: User:JamesHoadley/Test. This image or media will be removed per statement number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. The image that was replaced will not be automatically deleted, but it could be deleted at a later date. Articles using the same image should not be affected by my edits. I ask you to please not readd the image to your userpage and could consider finding a replacement image licensed under either the Creative Commons or GFDL license or released to the public domain. Thanks for your attention and cooperation. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 07:13, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:F1 Challenge '99-'02 Logo.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:F1 Challenge '99-'02 Logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:09, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed, added fair use rational for EA Sports F1 Series. The image isn't orphaned, but an instance of blanking vandalism occurred yesterday. --JamesHoadley 22:28, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:RFactor-06-05bmwsauber2.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:RFactor-06-05bmwsauber2.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 17:18, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I've now added a fair use rational to all screenshots and publicity images in the rFactor article, so there should be no problems there. -- JamesHoadley (talk) 04:54, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (File:F1 Challenge '99-'02 Logo.gif)[edit]

You've uploaded File:F1 Challenge '99-'02 Logo.gif, and indicated that it's used under Wikipedia's rules for non-free images. However, it's not presently used in any articles. Wikipedia policy requires that non-free images be either used or deleted, so if this image isn't used in an article in the next week, it will be deleted.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 12:30, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
