Metric[edit]

The box is intended to fit under the "Atlantic hurricane seasons" boxes that appear on the various hurricane season articles=. Widening it breaks the reasonable degree of size matching it did before. -- Cyrius| 15:52, 13 Sep 2004 (UTC)

There must be a way of providing metric information. I have made two attempts but have now given up on this one. Sigh. Feel free to revert it back to what it was before. Bobblewik  (talk) 16:08, 13 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Getting metric in there is easy. We just have to find someone more talented with layout than either of us to do it for us. Problem solved! Sort of... -- Cyrius| 16:31, 13 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Good answer. Bobblewik  (talk) 16:33, 13 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I'd be happier if I had an actual solution. -- Cyrius| 17:08, 13 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Colors[edit]

What about including the category colors in this template? Jdorje 01:31, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Template Name[edit]

Why is it called Saffir-Simpson-US? The SSS is the SSS no matter what country you're in. Jdorje 01:02, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The Saffir Simpson scale US version has U.S. units listed first, the non US version has SI units first. --Holderca1 20:41, 31 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
So where is the non-US version? {{Saffir-Simpson-nonUS}} would be my guess but it's not there, nor is it referenced anywhere. And how would one go about choosing which to use? Seems to me this is a bad separation. Any article may be read by both US and non-US people, so the distinction cannot be made even on an article-by-article basis. Jdorje 04:21, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
It's at {{Saffir-Simpson}} - but I agree with you, it's difficult or impossible to judge which units should be listed first. One might as well just use the SI-first version. --AySz88^-^ 04:38, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ouch; that one is really bad (no colors). We should merge them into {{Saffir-Simpson}}. I don't care which units go first. Jdorje 05:35, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Small version?[edit]

I think there should be a small compact version for use as a quick reference or a key. See User:AySz88/Sandbox for the code, which currently also has a button bar that shows one possible application.

I like it. It should also be used in the Category:Tropical cyclones by strength subcategories. It should be {{Saffir-Simpson small}}. And it shouldn't use any of the button templates internally. Jdorje 04:17, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Done! --AySz88^-^ 04:37, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Why is category One, Two...Five[edit]

The original source Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale by National Hurricane Center, NASA uses 1,2...5.―― Phoenix7777 (talk) 12:33, 7 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
