Dawson Springs in Caldwell County[edit]

Officially, Dawson Springs does, according to the federal government, exist within Caldwell County, Kentucky. However, I think it should be noted that according to the United States Census, 2000, only 0.02 mi² of land considered to be Dawson Springs is within Caldwell County and no water (see this link). Furthermore, within this 0.02 mi² there are no housing units and no population. This is stranger still because the county line between Caldwell and Hopkins Counties is the Tradewater River. I am looking into which portion of Dawson Springs is considered to be within Caldwell County and to possible explanations why this is so. At this point the only explanation I can proffer is that the Pennyrile State Forest is considered to be officially Dawson Springs and therefore, because part of it exists on the west side of Lake Beshear, that Dawson Springs is therefore considered to be in Caldwell County. However, this does not make much sense either because Pennyrile State Forest exists primarily within Christian County, Kentucky (see this link). So, if my possible explanation were true then the federal government would consider Dawson Springs to be in Caldwell, Christian, and Hopkins Counties. I will post more when I find out more. Any help is appreciated on this subject! Sjbodell (talk) 16:45, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
