200x[edit]

"The series is set in the ambiguous year of 20XX. In Mega Man 2 it is listed as 200X, but generally the transition is a change in canon rather than an indication of time passing."

I've changed the lines quoted above. The 200x date is given in Japanese sources for both the first and second game, and the 4th game mentions 200x as the era when Rock and Roll were created, but also mentions itself taking place in 20xx. Also, the games that have 200x in their text have been rereleased numerous time, but without a change in the text being made (and CAPCOM does change the text in games to update canon in rereleases, as evidenced in the Street Fighter series). --Boco XLVII 06:46, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Influences on character design[edit]

OK, Astro Boy has been confirmed as an influence in interviews, but Marvel Comics? Can anyone provide a citation for this, or is this just mindless speculation?

Here's the relevant section, which I removed from the article:

There is also some amount of similarity between the Mega Man 1 Robot Master Elec Man and the Marvel Comics character Wolverine. This has lead some to speculate that Elec Man's costume was in deed inspired by Wolverine or that the character's designer was a big fan of Marvel Comic-books.

"Mega Man Classic"?[edit]

I really think this article should just be called "Mega Man (series)". Does Capcom ever refer to the Mega Man series as "classic"?

I agree. While I'm not the most active member of the Mega Man Internet Fandom, I've been a fan of the series for many years and the title of this article is the first time I've heard the term "Mega Man Classic". As this article discusses a specific series of games titled Mega Man through Mega Man 8 with no mention of "classic", I propose we change the title of this article to "Mega Man (orginal series)". That way, we can disabmiguate from the Mega Man franchise as a whole, and still not go as far as declaring a new name for the games. Rush in Mega Man III[edit]

GameBoy games not Canon?[edit]

In the notes section, it is said that the GameBoy Mega Man games aren't considered canon. What proof is there that they are not?

I'm also not convinced of their non-canonity. Yes, I've seen stuff on the net people arguing one way or the other, but all of these are on fan-sites and fan-speculation. I do not see anything in the GB releases that would directly contradict established canon (though Capcom seems to have very little regard with consistency as it appears in their newer releases). Logically, all Game Boy games can be placed into the existing chronology. Arguing on stuff like Game Mechanics or the absence of Rush is in my view a flimsy basis for an argument since it's obvious the positioning of the games in the series is not relative to the release-order of the games (the first Game Boy game came out between Mega Man 2 and 3 for the NES but logically takes place later in the series due to dictating plot-elements in the NES games). Also, Capcom has not said one way or the other. I think it's fair to say their canon status is disputed. (user:HannuMakinen)

GameCube/PS2 Confusion[edit]

I believe that the PS2 version is called Anniversary Edition, but isn't the GameCube Version, seemingly identical, called Megaman Classic Collection?
