Hi, please could you stop removing those links from Cyp's signature. I believe he is experimenting to see if the phrase will appear on Special:Wantedpages so he might not be too pleased if you remove them all! Archiving

• Hi. I archive whenever the page is big (more than 32Kbytes). I don't really read what I am archiving, I just start from the top and I move some contents to an archive page. Actually it is not a job that I enjoy, it's tiresome and boring, but I do it in order to keep VP's size small. The problem with the Wikipedia:Village pump is a community problem: It fills very quickly and it becomes very big. We (the Wikipedia community) need to solve this problem somehow. Even now, the VP is more than 32Kbytes and people with slow connections and certain browsers may experience problems. I try to keep the Village pump and the Wikipedia:Reference desk accessible to anybody, so I try to reduce its size (ideally to less than 32Kbytes, but usually I allow it to be 40-45Kbytes because I know it fills so quickly that even one day discussions may fill it up) by archiving its contents. Until the community finds some way to solve the VP problem (probably by creating more specific fora), I don't see what else can I do except from mercilessly archiving in order to let people with slow connections be able to access the VP. We also have problems with the servers and big pages create more problems. Sorry for this, but I think nobody wants a 80KB or 100KB Village pump: It would be just unusable. You are free to move archived discussion again into the Village pump. Delete the discussion from the archiving page and move it at the end of the Village pump. Or, tell me which discussion you want me to restore and I will do it. The archiving pages are not protected so you can edit them (you can even continue your discussion there). I am sorry if I archived active discussion, but I just try to keep VP accessible and easy-to-use. You may consider having some discussion outside VP (at some talk page) and just putting a link in VP. Thank you for understanding the VP's problem. Actually I also have lost active discussion about one article I was editing because someone archived it! yes it is annoying, but I didn't say anything because I knew the archiver had no other choice (VP was big). Now whenever I am about to initialise some big discussion which is of interest to the whole community, I start the discussion somewhere else (for example, a subpage of my userpage or some talk page) and I just put a link in VP (something like "those who are interested to discuss about this matter, visit this talk page"). We (all wikipedians) really need to find some solution to the VP problem soon: it suffers from overpopulation :( Optim 18:02, 31 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Ordering of "N is also" lists

I agree with you that the "N is also" lists in the number articles should be sorted by widest relevance, and I also think that relevance should be judged from a secular standpoint (since for me, for example, the bar mitzvah age is more important than the atomic number of aluminum). Therefore, I agree with you that Wikipedia should put aluminum ahead of bar mitzvah. But what I'm taking issue with is your suggestion in your edit summary that an edit war could start over this. I'd like to think that Jewish Wikipedians would be sensible and not try to impose their views on others. Robert Happelberg 16:48, 10 Mar 2004 (UTC)

It's current wikipedia policy to use inline tex markup as little as possible. If it's possible to render something in HTML without losing meaning, then this is preferred. If something really needs tex, then go ahead. But, this is rare. If something longer than a couple symbols really requires tex, then it's best to put it on a separate line. Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Stack of Books

When you proposed the "Stack of Books" logo at Wikisource you also recognized that the eventual winner would need to sign over his rights to the design to the Wikimedia Foundation. The matter has progressed to the point where it looks like we will be having a final vote between that and the stylized iceberg. About right to left languages

hi friend, in this page of wikisource http://wikisource.org/wiki/Wikisource:Scriptorium/Language_domain_proposal you said it's imposible to create a wikisource for right to left languages, but i didn't understand why was that, especially that hebrew is a right to left language and it has it's own subdomain!!!

Doing something about the ridiculous date autoformatting/linking mess

Dear Happy—you may be interested in putting your name to, or at least commenting on this new push to get the developers to create a parallel syntax that separates autoformatting and linking functions. IMV, it would go a long way towards fixing the untidy blueing of trivial chronological items, and would probably calm the nastiness between the anti- and pro-linking factions in the project.
