Rent control[edit]

Willmcw, If rent control is no longer in effect, why is there this: http://santa-monica.org/rentcontrol/? BenFrantzDale 15:19, Feb 14, 2005 (UTC)

I'm sorry if that was the impression you got from the text. It was vacancy decontrol that the state law imposed. I've added a bit of text to clarify that the rest of rent control remains. Thanks for pointing out that ambiguity. Cheers, -Willmcw 20:34, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

PD photo-rama[edit]

I found so many good historic PD photos that I had to toss in a lot of them (there were still many more...). I think doing galleries for each relevant period was the best way to approach it. --Bobak 21:56, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That looks good. Thanks for the effort. -Will Beback · · 00:24, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bay Cities Building mis-attributed[edit]

I'm removing the claim that Stiles O. Clements was the architect of the Bay Cities (Guaranty) Building. Despite claims on a number of web sites, and in at least one book, that Clements designed this building, there is no doubt that the architect was Albert Walker of Walker & Eisen, the architectural firm named on the 1929 building permit. Thanks for that correction. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 06:06, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Juan José Carrillo[edit]

I can find no support for the statement that "1886.....Juan José Carrillo elected as the first mayor"

Ingersoll's Century History, Santa Monica Bay Cities By Luther A. Ingersoll

Ingersoll page 169

"In November, 1886, another important step in the advancement of Santa Monica occurred. This was the incorporation of the town ; the election to decide the question being held November 30th and resulting in a vote of 97 for incorporation and 71 against. The first board of trustees chosen for the town was made up of John Steere, chairman: Dr. E. C. Folsom, A. E. Ladd, W. S. Yawter and j. W. Scott. Fred C. McKinnie was the first town clerk; H. C. Baggs, Jr., was elected marshal and E. K. Chapin treasurer. Baggs failing to qualify, Michael Noon was appointed in his place."

Ingersoll page 174

"In April (1988), after a rather lively contest, three new trustees were elected, Thomas A. Lewis, Thomas Rhodes and J. J. Carrillo, the latter of whom served as trustee continuously until 1900 — twelve years."

Ingersoll page 182

"In 1888 he (Carrillo) was elected as city trustee and for twelve years thereafter he was re-elected regularly, thus serving the city longer than any other trustee ever chosen. During this time he was for seven years, from 1890 to 1897, president of the board and thus acting mayor of the city."
