A warm welcome from another Thailand lover. I have answered your comment on the Chao Phraya, to my knowledge there really is (or was) that title. But I am sure the other articles on Thailand also contain mistakes or misinterpretation, so it's good if you take a look at them if you have time. And in case you haven't noticed it, there is also a thai wikipedia at http://th.wikipedia.org, which is still in its infancy and also needs contributors. andy 17:38, 25 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Neua pad prik

Hi Bobbagum. I've added Neua pad prik to the list of Thai dishes at Cuisine of Thailand. I noticed that prior to this addition, there are nearly no popular dishes listed which contain beef, is there a reason for that? Whenever you have a chance, could you please help me translate the word "neua" into Thai? Back in the old days, Large animals such as cows are only felled for food in festivities, so meat is not widespread, compared to pork or chicken, I would imagine it's all to do with effort it takes in killing the animal, plus the animals is more useful as transport, I suspect that the large amount of meat produced means that the typical family couldn't possibly finish it so preserved form of meat such as neua daed deaw (sun dried beef) is more well known.

In modern day of course, means there’s people (mainly Chinese) who follows the teaching of the Buddhist saint Kuan_Yin that won’t eat meat, resulting in that if you visit a McDonald's in a predominantly Chinese part of town, they will asks you twice if you really want the "Hamburger" gently reminding you that burgers are beef. An interesting note is that the most popular McDonald’s burgers in Thailand is a pork burger.

Although Hindus don’t eat beef as well, and Muslims from South Asia don’t like beef, they tend to stick to their community, so that’s not really a reason why people don’t eat beef that much in Thailand.

so it’s mainly the fact that indigenous Thais don’t eat beef that much and some of the Chinese won’t eat them for half the time maybe, but don’t quote me on it yet,

There’s actually plenty of beef dishes, just that to avoid offending people Thais will asks guest if they take beef or not at dinner-parties and such....

Please help to translate this pali-language sentence into English

Hello,Bobbagum. Sorry for interrupting you! I am a Chinese-wiki editor, today I uploaded a file on wiki-common: [1], which is an important Pili-language sentence that results in the early divide of Buddhism (Theravada and mahasamghika). One of my friend insisted that this words shouldn't be said into Mahaparinibbana Sutta; however, I found this word from Pali's maha-parinibbana-suttanta. Since both of us don't know pali-language, I may need your help on translate this sentence. ( I consider it is: "Do not lay down that which has not been laid down; Do not eliminate that which has been laid down." ) Thanks for any response!
