It would be interesting to investigate the etymology of the name of this river. It strikes me the number of rivers in Galicia with names that begin with Tam- (like Tambre, Tamuxe and Támoga). Could these etymologies be related to the the name of the river Thames, which is thought to derive from a Celtic (Brythonic) expression that meant "dark waters"?

<<In fact, Temese does not come from Ancient Greek, but from Latin Tamesis, which itself comes from Celtic (Brythonic) Tamesa, perhaps meaning "the dark one".>> From the article "Thames" --62.6.139.10 14:09, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
