ProQuest reference nonexistent?[edit]

Being concerned about the poor grammar and punctuation in the quote supposedly sourced from ProQuest ("Maryland GOP mails checks to colored clerics in vote bid, proquest") I started digging and can find absolutely nothing similar to this in ProQuest or any other of the dozens of databases accessible from the university with which I'm associated. In fact, the phrase "colored clerics" shows up nowhere in a full-text search of every available database. The only online sources I can find that refer to this article are sourced from Wikipedia with the same typos, and there's nothing in Google Scholar, either. The only conclusion I can draw is that this was added as a hoax and therefore should be removed until a legitimate source can be identified. Accordingly, I am removing this reference and ask that it not be restored until someone can provide a properly referenced source. B.Rossow · talk 14:15, 25 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The questionable material was added 24 November 2008 by an anonymous editor in this edit. Further research indicates that other material supposedly sourced from ProQuest by this same user (see this revision) doesn't exist and will be similarly removed as apparent fiction. More extensive searching found nothing more for the "GOP mails checks" claim, but I was able to turn up some mid-1930s articles with the quoted material removed in my second pass. I re-added the information along with appropriate citations. B.Rossow · talk 18:53, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
