Requested move Uccle -> Uccle - Ukkel[edit]

See discussion on Talk:Brussels-Capital Region

Actually, it occurs to me that we are doing the Vlaamse population of Belgium a disservice by describing their language as Dutch. While there are many similarities, there also many differences. Views please. user:sjc

Being a Vlaming myself I have no objection if somebody says I speak Dutch. Actually, it is the usual name of the language spoken in the Netherlands and Flanders (and maybe Suriname too?). Why would you do us a disservice? Dhum Dhum 16:21 Dec 3, 2002 (UTC) (have to go now, be back later)

I moved the page to Uccle as it is more common in a google search. WhisperToMe 01:17, 11 Dec 2003 (UTC)

The reasons for the title of this page and other pages of the Brussels' municipalities has been discussed on Talk:Brussels. So, I'm moving it back to where it came from. D.D. 19:47, 4 Jan 2004 (UTC)

This page name is atrocious, and really should settle on one or the other. RickK 03:43, 7 Jan 2004 (UTC)

When all else fails, use common names. Having them both in the title is unacceptable. --Jiang 05:28, 7 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Yea, all of the municipalities that have a French and Dutch name also were "double named" - I changed them all to 1 name, all but 2 of the double named articles were most commonly named in French per google search. WhisperToMe 02:20, 8 Jan 2004 (UTC)

The fact is that nearly ALL names were originally Flemish, NOT French. IE: Ukkel, Leuven, St-Joost-ten-Noode, St-Pieters-Woluwe, BROEKZELE.

But then again, the French have dominated us silly boorish Flemish for so long, so why should it matter? It's just another victory for them.

I have copied the WP:RM request made by User:Diemietrie onto the Talk:Brussels-Capital Region. If you have an opinion on this issue you need to express you opinions on that page as User:Diemietrie has included this page as on of a block he wants moved and Talk:Brussels-Capital Region is where the conversation should be centred, as that is the talk page User:Diemietrie specified on WP:RM. --Philip Baird Shearer 14:36, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Names survey, result[edit]

Between 23 December 2006 and 28 January 2007 there has been a survey about which names the articles for the municipalities in the Brussels region should have. The municipalities in question have different names in French and Dutch, the two official languages of the region. A majority of contributors to the survey prefers using one single same over using both names in the title. This single name should follow English usage, which has been determined using domain specific Google searches.

The final result of the survey is that:

Details about the survey can be found at Talk:Brussels-Capital Region/NamingArchive3. Markussep 18:36, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

1st line[edit]

Sorry, nothing to do with any language preferences, but where the article name is already decided, this should be the 1st on the order of the 1st line. All respect to the Vlams name and history (I used to live happily in Zaventem), but it just looks illogical and wrong to have inconsistencies between the article name and Introduction. I think Talk:Brussels-Capital Region/NamingArchive3 applies here also. --83.170.113.250 (talk) 09:01, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

relevance of images?[edit]

Kriekenputstraat/Rue du Kriekenput
The Paepenkasteel in 1694
The tower of the Paepenkasteel

This article includes these three images, two of something called the Paepenkasteel and one of something called Kriekenputstraat/Rue du Kriekenput, but nothing in the article tells what either the Paepenkasteel or Kriekenputstraat/Rue du Kriekenput is or what its significance is to the subject of this article.

I think straat and rue are roughly equivalent to the English street, but readers of the English Wikipedia should not be expected to know that; and even knowing that the photograph is of a street does not explain why it is in this article.

Either that information – explaining what the Paepenkasteel and Kriekenputstraat/Rue du Kriekenput are and how they are relevant to Uccle – should be added somewhere in the article or the three images should be removed.--Jim10701 (talk) 17:14, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
