Welcome![edit]

Hi Sghan, and a warm welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you have enjoyed editing as much as I did so far and decide to stay. Unfamiliar with the features and workings of Wikipedia? Don't fret! Be Bold! Here's some good links for your reference and that'll get you started in no time!

Most Wikipedians would prefer to just work on articles of their own interest. But if you have some free time to spare, here are some open tasks that you may want to help out :

  • RC Patrol - Keeping a lookout for vandalism.
  • Cleanup - Help make unreadable articles readable.
  • Requests - Wanted on WP, but hasn't been created.
  • Merge - Combining duplicate articles into one.
  • Wikiprojects - So many to join, so many to choose from...Take your pick!

Oh yes, don't forget to sign when you write on talk pages, simply type four tildes, like this: ~~~~. This will automatically add your name and the time after your comments. And finally, if you have any questions or doubts, don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Once again, welcome! =)

Re : Mandarin, Japanese, and frustration[edit]

Hi Sghan,

No problem, it's alright! Don't worry, Huaiwei is another issue altogether, which I'm trying to work out. I'm glad you have signed up for an account. Do read and familiarise yourself with the policies and guidelines for contributors, so that you'll be able to work well with other editors and avoid conflict.

Do also have a look at SGpedian's Noticeboard & Singapore Wikipedians as well. So there, enjoy and happy editing! :)

Welcome from me too, Sghan. No hard feelings about Mandarin/Japanese, but a word of advice. It's true that there are many mistakes on Wikipedia, and that you are free to fix them -- indeed, you're encouraged to do so. Sometimes, fixing a mistake means removing a paragraph or more. However, if a page has already had a lot of edits (as Mandarin (linguistics) had), it's unlikely (though still possible) that there are big mistakes. So before you make a big change, stop and think: "Could I have misunderstood this?" and reread it. (Or even, "Could they be right, and I wrong?") Even if you are then pretty sure that the article is wrong and you are right, it's often a good idea to raise the issue on the talk page.
I've had this experience myself. Sorry, I can't think of an example right now, but I have thought "Rubbish!" and been about to make very drastic changes — and then stopped, reread, and either (a) realized "Ah, I see, that's what they meant" or (b) looked up the matter elsewhere and found that I was mistaken.
End of sermon! And now, please enjoy yourself editing or creating articles here. -- Hoary 06:46, 2005 Mar 20 (UTC)

Re : Revert[edit]

Hi Sghan,

Cool down, take it easy yeah? :) My reply is similiar to what Hoary has said, I really don't know which article you are referring to, but you can find it out yourself by checking the Page History. (Yup, it's on the top of the tabs!) And note that reverts are fairly common in Wikipedia, and varies from reason to reason. Don't be discouraged, I'm sure your contributions will be accepted into the community. ;) - Mailer Diablo 17:27, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)

"if you want to help i would be most grateful if not just shut up"[edit]

(A quotation from a message left on Mailer Diablo's talk page.)

Fine, Sghan. I hadn't realized that this was exclusively a request for Mailer Diablo -- especially when his email address can be found so easily.

If you reread what I wrote on MD's page, you'll see that I told you exactly how to find which username made which change, so you could identify the "idiot" who "deleted everything that [you] took time to add". Perhaps I misunderstood your request and this was not the information you were after; so -- having already spent a fair amount of time assuaging your indignation over Mandarin (linguistics) -- I'll gladly shut up.

If you want to reply (not necessary, I think), please reply on this page rather than mine (or MD's). -- Hoary 05:59, 2005 Mar 23 (UTC)

==actually i still cant quite get use to this system so for once help me find that idiot please....???Sghan 09:01, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Which article you are referring to that was so-called "idiot" has reverted? - Mailer Diablo 17:30, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

singapore airlinesSghan 10:53, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)btw where did u get into ?

Go to Singapore Airlines. Click "History", and you'll get to this page. What's difficult? -- Hoary 11:16, 2005 Mar 24 (UTC)
If you do decide to ask the editor who reverted your edits for an explanation, do be nice to him/her. Editors in Wikipedia are usually more than happy to compromise and discuss to ressolve the differences. You don't have to insult, neither do you have to yell to get your point through or things done (not at least in Wikipedia). Remember, Assume good faith! :) - Mailer Diablo 18:15, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Re : Birthday[edit]

Yes, it was, although I didn't had a good day for myself! :P But anyway, thank you! :) - Mailer Diablo 20:21, 25 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Malay religions[edit]

I've reverted your changes again, and put my reasons in the talk page. Please discuss before changing again. (Caniago 11:02, 5 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Some stats for Singapore here: Talk:Malays_(ethnic_group)#Infobox (Caniago 11:22, 5 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]

A tag has been placed on Kiatnakin Bank, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. --Geniac 19:47, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Koreans in Singapore[edit]

How does it matter whether I am Singaporean or not? All article content should be supported by RELIABLE sources, not bulletin boards or whatever. If there is no reliable source which discusses what religions that Koreans in Singapore follow, then such information shouldn't be included in the article. cab (talk) 01:48, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Then insert a PROPER citation to those sources instead of blindly reverting me and leaving the citation to the unreliable source. And if you don't like following Wikipedia's policies about verifiability and reliable sources, you're entirely welcome not to edit, or to go start your own website where you write whatever you want without providing verification. Finally, {{fact}} tags go after punctuation and not before. cab (talk) 01:56, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ok point taken, and by the way, if you are not aware of whether something is right or wrong, please don't try to act as if you know best. it just makes you look stupid.Sghan (talk) 01:59, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough. My apologies and let's leave this stupid conflict behind us. I added a source for Koreans in Indonesia as well. cab (talk) 02:30, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok sure. I just want to say that(note that this is not directed at you) sometimes it just irks a person to know that the article in which he/she is editing happens to be in a certain country he/she is living but some third person thinks that he/she is right. Ok you get what I mean. I am sure this happens to you to. Chill out.=)Sghan (talk) 02:34, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
